There was no major announcement from Tiger Woods on Monday, no matter what the hours of frenzied speculation online said.

Late Sunday, Golf Channel promoted that it would release some news involving Woods on Monday morning. That turned out to be word that his agent, Mark Steinberg, was joining Excel Sports Management. Steinberg left IMG in May.

But before that, Steinberg had to correct the rumors buzzing around the Internet that the golfer was about to make a big announcement about himself.

Steinberg told The Associated Press on Monday: "There's an erroneous report that he's making an announcement, but he's not."

Woods, who pulled out of The Players Championship in May after nine holes, missed the U.S. Open last month and will skip the upcoming British Open because of nagging knee and Achilles injuries.

"Unfortunately, I've been advised that I should not play in the British Open. As I stated at the AT&T National, I am only going to come back when I'm 100 percent ready. I do not want to risk further injury. That's different for me, but I'm being smarter this time. I'm very disappointed and want to express my regrets to British Open fans," Woods said on his website last week.

The last time Woods missed two consecutive majors was in 2008 when he had knee surgery. He has never missed three consecutive majors since turning pro in 1996.
