Big 10: Glenn wrestling still No. 1

Senior Nick Meinsen become Glenn’s first state champ after he won the title at 130 pounds at the Times Union Center in Albany. Nick Terdick placed third in the state at 152 as the Knights punctuated a glorious season with two Division I All-State wrestlers last weekend.
2. HALF HOLLOW HILLS WEST BOYS BASKETBALL
The nationally ranked Colts (in the Top 25 in the Sports Illustrated and USA Today polls) had no trouble advancing to the Suffolk Class AA title game. Hills West beat Copiague, 80-63, and then doubled up Bay Shore, 96-48, in the semifinals. The showdown with No. 2 Longwood for the county crown is Wednesday night at 8 at Farmingdale State.
Eagles crowned the school’s fifth state champion when freshman Mark West earned a 2-1 decision over Eric Lewandowski of Lancaster to capture the 96-pound title in Albany. West finished the season with a 43-0 record.
The No. 2-seeded Lions handled Whitman, 86-70, on Tuesday and then used a 27-7 third quarter to race past Lindenhurst, 79-62, in the semifinals. All season we thought it would be the Lions against the Colts for the AA county title, and now it’s a reality.
5. NORTH BABYLON GIRLS BASKETBALL
Bria Hartley scored career-high 43 points and had 10 steals for top-seeded North Babylon in a 69-37 win over No. 4 Smithtown West in the Class AA semifinals on Monday night.
The Eagles crowned three state champions and earned the overall team title with 72 points. Two-time state champion Stephen Dutton (140), Anthony Volpe (160) and Billy Coggins (171) won four bouts apiece to claim individual state titles.
7. HALF HOLLOW HILLS BOYS SWIMMING
It’s four straight perfect years for Half Hollow Hills, which has not been beaten in regular-season meets, league championships and county championships during the span.
8. WARD MELVILLE GIRLS FENCING
The undefeated Patriots finished the season with a 12-0 record and earned the school’s ninth straight Suffolk championship.
9. SACHEM EAST GIRLS BASKETBALL
The Flaming Arrows beat No. 7 Floyd, 73-39, in a Suffolk Class AA quarterfinal. Kristen Doherty had 25 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five steals for Sachem East, which beat Ward Melville, 70-32, in last night’s semi
10. MIDDLE COUNTRY GIRLS BOWLING
The Cougarines finished the season with an undefeated league record and beat East Islip in the county championship by 21 pins.

Alexx Baum, Lawrence, girls track: She set a school record in the triple jump with a distance of 37-11/4 at the LI Invitational.
Shneeka Center, Smithtown West, girls basketball: Center had 30 points and career-high 33 rebounds in a 70-53 win over Northport in the Suffolk AA quarterfinals.

Jessica Bandrowski, Center Moriches, girls basketball: Bandrowski scored 27 points on her 18th birthday in a 44-28 win over Stony Brook in the Suffolk B/C game.
Khaleev Ginyard, St. John the Baptist, boys basketball: The senior guard closed out a fine career with 40 points, including nine three-pointers, in a tough 72-69 upset loss to Holy Trinity in Sunday night’s CHSAA semifinals.
Nick Ferreiro, Holy Trinity, boys basketball: He scored 22 points and made two key plays in the final minutes as the Titans stunned unbeaten top seed St. John the Baptist Sunday night in the CHSAA semifinals.
Chauvaughn Lewis, St. Mary’s, boys basketball: He scored 20 points with eight rebounds in a win over St. Dominic in Saturday’s first round of the CHSAA playoffs, and came back with 20 points and 11 rebounds in a semifinal victory Sunday over Chaminade.
