2014 All-Long Island boys basketball team
AAREN EDMEAD
Long Island Player of the Year
Deer Park, Guard, Senior
Edmead was a special player, averaging 19.8 points, six assists and three steals as Deer Park made it all the way to the Suffolk Class AA championship game. He also became the first Falcon to earn a Division I scholarship since Bob McCurdy (Class of 1970) when he accepted an offer from Wagner.
DEVONTE GREEN
Nassau Player of the Year
Long Island Lutheran, Guard, Sophomore
Led the Crusaders in scoring, averaging 17.6 points per game, and has added a perimeter game to go along with his driving ability. Of Lutheran's loss to Christ the King in the Federation Class AA final when Green was limited by an ankle sprain, CTK coach Joe Arbitello said, "They are too classy to use it as an excuse, but that's a different team with Devonte."
MIKE ALMONACY
Brentwood, Guard, Sophomore
Nailed 78 three-pointers and averaged 20.1 points and seven assists. “Just an incredibly special player who could do a lot of impressive things on the court,” said coach Anthony Jimenez. Scored 14 points with four assists as Brentwood captured the Class AA Long Island championship in a 61-41 win over Farmingdale.
DWAYNE DANIEL
Lawrence, Guard, Senior
The Iona recruit led Lawrence to another impressive regular season, as it finished unbeaten (14-0) in Conference A-II. Averaged 17.3 points behind a dependable three-point shot and a knack for driving to the basket. Developed into a great passer and facilitator for an offensive unit that had three other players score in double-figures.
TRAVIS DICKERSON
Amityville, Guard, Senior
Averaged 17.3 points and nailed 30 three-pointers as one of the leaders for a heavily-talented crew. Scored at least 20 points in five games mostly because of a sweet mid-range jumper. Usually filled up the stat sheet with nearly 10 rebounds and three assists per game.
TAVON GINYARD
St. John the Baptist, Guard, Junior
His 25.2 points per game were tops in the CHSAA. He surpassed 1,000 career points in February and could become the Cougars' all-time leading scorer after next season. Scored 46 points in a win against Thurgood Marshall in the season opener and topped 30 points in five games.
TERRY HARRIS
Half Hollow Hills West, Forward, Senior
Suffolk's leading scorer averaged 24.9 points per game. Lauded by opposing coaches for having an exceptional basketball mind, he also averaged 12.5 rebounds and nearly five assists. Surpassed 1,000 career points in February and, coach Bill Mitaritonna said, finished fourth all-time in scoring at Half Hollow Hills West.
STEPHEN MILHAVEN
St. Mary's, Forward
Scored at least 30 points in five games and averaged 23.1 points. Was a steady rebounder who typically grabbed about 10 boards every game. Helped an inexperienced team earn the No. 1 seed in the playoffs. Notched a team-high 25 points during the thrilling 66-64 quarterfinal win in overtime against St. John the Baptist.
IMRAN RITCHIE
Uniondale, Guard, Senior
Propelled the Knights to a county final appearance, averaging 15.9 points. Was a scoring point guard with an ability to make flashy passes. Displayed a deep shooting range and tallied a triple-double on Jan. 17 (20 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists).
TYQUAN SCOTT
Long Beach, Forward
Led Long Island in scoring, averaging 25.7 points. Racked up more than 10 rebounds in nearly every game he played. Improved his leaping ability in the offseason and made a name for himself with his rim-rattling dunks and shot-blocking prowess. After all, he is the defending state champion in the high jump, clearing 6-feet-7 last June.
ANTHONY JIMENEZ
Suffolk Coach of the Year, Brentwood
JOE CONEFRY
