Bellport High School has canceled its junior varsity boys lacrosse season amid an investigation into an incident involving the team, according to a statement from the district's superintendent.

"The district is aware of allegations regarding an incident involving the boys junior varsity lacrosse team," South Country Central School District Superintendent Antonio Santana said in the statement. "The rest of the season has been canceled."

The team had three games remaining in the season -- Wednesday's game against Westhampton, Thursday's game against Rocky Point and a game on Monday against Miller Place, according to the Section XI website.

"The district is taking this matter extremely seriously and does not and will not condone any behaviors that are not consistent with our Code of Conduct," Santana's statement read. "The district is conducting an ongoing investigation and we will have no further comment at this time."
