Hicksville looking like contender again
While Hicksville has a big void to fill with the graduation of Tim Parker, Newsday's Long Island Player of the Year last season, the Comets will be in contention again for the Nassau Class AA championship.
The Comets were undefeated before losing in the semifinals on penalty kicks. The Comets return nine starters and have a lot of depth. Hicksville didn't allow many goals last seasons and senior defender Marco Bonilla was a big reason for it. Senior Ian Gallagher can play anywhere. On the championship two years ago, he played defense. Last year he played the midfielder and this season he will play forward and be looked upon to score goals.
Senior midfielder Jimmy Myers is 6-3 and is excellent in the air along with good vision and good passing skills. Junior goalkeeper Brian McPartland was on the county championship team from two years ago and Peter DiLorenzo is 6-2 and fast.
