The stakes were higher, but the result remained the same. Less than two weeks after winning the Nassau-Suffolk CHSAA title, the Chaminade boys cross country team took the CHSAA Intersectional crown Saturday at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. The title was its first in five years, coach Bill Carriero said.

Thomas Slattery won the 2.5-mile race in 12:32. Sean Kelly took second in 12:35. Gunnar Nolan was fourth in 12:52. The Flyers had a 12:58 five-man average, breaking the previous meet record of 13:04, set by Power Memorial in 1972, Carriero said.

"It was a sweet win," Carriero said. "We were able to be strong up front. As a coach, you're lucky to get one guy under 13 minutes. To have three guys under is awesome."

St. Anthony's won the girls team title. Gina D'Angelo and Stephanie Leo were the highest finishers for the Friars.

St. Anthony's won despite missing two of their top runners, Delaney Worth and Gianna Minecone, who were sidelined because of injury.

"I was a little nervous going into the race," St. Anthony's coach Delia Hopkins said. "But our depth really took care of business."

Kellenberg was second. Jazmine Frey was fourth in 15:34, her season best, coach Marty Brown said.
