Newsday's Top 50 field hockey players for 2022
Newsday's annual list of the top 50 high school field hockey players on Long Island as the season gets underway, listed alphabetically.
Shannon Abraldes, Sachem East, F/M, Jr.
The junior will look to score on corners and make an impact on offense.
Grace Agrillo, Huntington, M, Sr.
Agrillo has the ability to recover the ball and pass to the forwards. She is a flier on defensive corners and able to shut down opposing teams' corners.
Laurel Bonn, Huntington, M, Sr.
Bonn was among the leading scorers in Suffolk last year with nine goals and eight assists. Her excellent stick work and dodges allow her to transition the ball up the field as well as score on corners.
Lauren Brodowsky, Sachem East, F/M, Sr.
Brodowsky enters her senior year as a force on offense with the skill set and knowledge to assist in scoring.
Nicolette Buffolino, Massapequa, F, Sr.
Buffolino led Nassau in scoring last season with 16 goals and six assists.
Marie Cacciabaudo, Garden City, M, Sr.
Cacciabaudo totaled 12 points last season (four goals, eight assists) for Garden City and played an important role in the Long Island Class B Championship title run.
Olivia Del Tatto, Locust Valley, D, Sr.
The senior is a strong defender and serves as a captain for the second straight year.
Olivia Docyk, Carle Place, F, Sr.
Docyk again will be a focal point of the Carle Place attack. She totaled 10 points (six goals, four assists) last season.
Lacey Downey, West Babylon, F, Sr.
Downey was among the Suffolk scoring leaders with 37 points last season, including 26 goals and 11 assists.
Julia Fusco, Bayport-Blue Point, F/M, Jr.
The junior will play a crucial role in the Bayport-Blue Point offense’s scoring ability.
Mia Gangemi, Pierson, D, Sr.
The fifth-year starting defender is incredibly accurate on both offensive and defensive corners.
Ashlynne Gangji, Centereach, D, Sr.
Gangji's athleticism and speed make her one of the top defensive players in the league.
Kyra Giannelli, Ward Melville, M, Sr.
Giannelli's skills and knowledge of the game make her crucial to the team's success.
Lisa Heffernan, Sachem North, M, Jr.
Heffernan has incredible speed and vision and will be a force on the midfield line for Sachem North.
Rory Heslin, Garden City, M, Sr.
Heslin helped her team win the Long Island Class B Championship last season. She totaled six goals and two assists.
Alexandra Howell, Sachem East, F/M, Sr.
The senior midfielder scored the tying and go-ahead goals in the shootout for Sachem East in its defeat of top-seeded Manhasset last season.
Lexi Huntington, Harborfields, D, Sr.
Huntington is one of the county’s top defenders and also plays a key role in the offense. She had five assists last season.
Jenna Iaquinto, Smithtown East, D, Sr.
Iaquinto's high field hockey IQ and precise control over the ball make her a solid defender.
Mia Juvelier, Centereach, M, Sr.
Juvelier serves as the backbone of the team as the playmaker from the middle of the field.
Maggie Kennedy, Bayport-Blue Point, D, Sr.
Kennedy is a strong defender who will be a key component to Bayport-Blue Point’s success this season.
Maggie Keys, Harborfields, M, Sr.
Keys, a top midfielder, scored five goals and assisted on two others last season.
Alexa Kidd, Ward Melville, F, Jr.
Kidd is one of the fastest and most skilled forwards on the Patriots. She has an ability to make plays inside the attacking circle.
Lily Klimuszko, Manhasset, F, Sr.
The third-year starter will be an essential scorer for Manhasset this season. She had 11 goals and four assists last fall.
Caroline Lewkowicz, Bayport-Blue Point, GK, Sr.
Lewkowicz recorded nine shutouts last season.
Savana Lippe, West Babylon, D, Sr.
Lippe will help create a strong defensive wall for West Babylon.
Kate Lysaght, Harborfields, D, Jr.
Lysaght played an integral role in her team’s 11 shutouts in 2021. She also helped Harborfields win its first Suffolk Class B title by scoring two goals in the championship game.
Kelly Mack, Manhasset, D, Sr.
Mack’s impressive stick skills and pressure on corners helped Manhasset have a competitive season (12-4) as a top seed in Nassau I last fall.
Emma Mandato, Locust Valley, Sr.
Mandato was a top scorer in Nassau last fall with 16 goals and three assists.
Emma McGrory, East Hampton, M, Jr.
McGrory has a keen eye for scoring and making fluid plays. She had eight goals and five assists last season.
Olivia McKenna, Northport, M/F, Sr.
McKenna led the team in points last season and scored the winning goal in the state Class A championship game.
Kate McKillop, Bayport-Blue Point, D, Sr.
One of the state’s top defensive players, McKillop is a force to be reckoned with for Bayport-Blue Point’s opponents.
Natalie McKenna, Northport, GK, Sr.
McKenna allowed only three goals last year and allowed none in both the playoffs and state championships.
Emma McLam, Northport, F, Sr.
McLam is an integral part of Northport’s offense. She had 19 goals and 10 assists last season.
Brooke Meltcher, Shoreham Wading River, M, Sr.
Meltcher will use her experience and understanding of the game to help Shoreham-Wading River complete key plays.
Grace Mulham, Ward Melville, D, Jr.
The three-year varsity starter is an instrumental part of the team’s offensive and defensive corner units. Mulham’s grit and strength make her a very difficult defender to challenge.
Sheila Mullins, Garden City, M, Sr.
Mullins’ game-winning goal in overtime led Garden City to the Nassau Class B title last season.
Sara O’Sullivan, Sachem East, M, Jr.
The athletic midfielder will use her quick feet and strong stick skills to assist Sachem East’s offense.
Sophia Papacostas, Clarke, F/M, Jr.
The junior will be an integral part of Clarke’s quest for another county championship this season. She had four goals in the Nassau Conference II championship last year.
Dylan Reilly, Greenport/Southold, GK, Jr.
Reilly made 150 saves in her first season, including 25 against Pierson in the Suffolk Class C championship game.
Kristi Santos, Lindenhurst, M, Sr.
Santos is a fierce competitor with excellent athleticism that will help her team thrive against tough matchups.
Sarah Smalley, East Islip, M, Sr.
Smalley is a crucial part of her team’s ability to score and make essential plays.
Meredith Spolarich, Pierson, M, Sr.
Spolarich is an athletic player who controls the midfield with quick passes and solid stick skills. She will be Pierson’s playmaker, using her excellent field vision to set up shots into the circle.
Amanda Sweeney, Eastport South Manor, M, Jr.
The junior will be an essential piece of Eastport-South Manor’s attack.
Marisa Terrone, Carle Place, M, Sr.
Terrone’s vocal skills on and off the field make her the perfect leader for the Carle Place offense.
Mikayla Verdi, East Meadow, F/M, Sr.
An all-around athlete, Verdi will be a part of the plays and passes that will propel East Meadow this season.
Mackenzie Wehrum, Garden City, GK, Sr.
Wehrum will assist Garden City’s back line in challenging matchups this season. She had nine saves in a Nassau Conference I game against Manhasset last year.
Rylee Wassmer, Patchogue-Medford, M, Jr.
Wassmer was a top scorer in the county last season with 11 goals and one assist for Patchogue-Medford.
Amanda Wisoky, Half Hollow Hills, M, Sr.
Wisoky will serve as a leader in her third year as captain after leading the team in goals and assists last season.
Jordyn Wolff, Bay Shore, GK, Sr.
The three-year starter recorded seven shutouts last season. She had 20 saves against Northport and 19 saves against Sachem East.
Kendal Woolley, Bayport-Blue Point, F, Jr.
Woolley played a big role on offense last season with 17 points (11 goals, six assists).
