Abby Farrell's goal helps Bayport-Blue Point field hockey claim victory over Harborfields in waning moments

The Bayport-Blue Point field hockey team found itself planted in Harborfields’ defensive end during the final quarter of Wednesday's Suffolk II matchup to stave off a potential winning goal.
The score was tied. Harborfields was awarded three consecutive penalty corners. It was nearly all Tornadoes for the final six minutes.
Until it wasn’t.
As precious seconds ticked away, Aubrie Eisfeld charged toward the shooting circle and guided a pass toward the face of goal. The ball bounced off of Lily Viscusi’s pads before Camryn Bruckner flicked it back to the cage. Abby Farrell had been standing at the right edge on a couple of occasions earlier in the game, so when she saw the ball bouncing in her direction in the waning moments of regulation, only one thought crossed her mind.
“I had to finish,” Farrell said.
Pandemonium ensued after Farrell’s bouncing shot clattered into the back of the cage, lifting Bayport-Blue Point to a 3-2 victory over visiting Harborfields with 1:18 remaining.
“She’s a great tipper,” Bruckner said. “I was hoping she would be there to finish, and she was. We weren’t going to stop hustling.”
Viscusi made three of her six saves early in the fourth quarter as the Phantoms (12-1) attempted to give themselves their third lead.
“It was frustrating, but I focused on keeping my stick down and putting all of my power into it,” Farrell said. “We kept our eyes open for each other and made those final moments count.”
The Phantoms planned to score early and fast, but it wasn’t until the second quarter that either team put a score on the board. When the Phantoms earned a penalty corner with 13:49 left in the first half, Farrell found Eisfeld to give the Phantoms a 1-0 lead.
“We knew since the beginning of the season that this was the team to beat,” Bruckner said. “We knew it was going to be a tough game. We knew we had to dominate and get that first goal.”
It didn’t take Harborfields (10-2) long to answer. In under two minutes, it earned its own corner where Jocelyn Frein found Juliet Gianfrancesco to tie the score at 1.
Early in the third quarter, the Phantoms secured a 2-1 lead courtesy of Emma Shanahan, who took advantage of ample time and space in front of the cage after a pass from Bruckner.

Senior goalie Delaney Bowen stopped eight shots for the Phantoms, who have been adjusting to the lineup gaps left by last year’s six graduating seniors.
“It finally all came together today,” coach Karen Gick said. “That was certainly the best game we’ve had this season.”
