Keeping it 100.

That’s just how the Northport field hockey team rolls.

With 7:48 remaining before halftime in Sunday’s Long Island Class A championship, Angelina Longo inserted a corner to the stick of Olivia McKenna, who fired one into the back of the cage to give Northport a four-goal lead en route to a 7-0 victory over Massapequa at Centereach High School.

The goal was the 100th of the season for the Tigers.

"The previous record for us was 65 [set in 2018], and they blew that out of the water," Northport coach Gina Walling said. "That was something they’ve been working toward, and once they set their minds on something, they get it done."

McKenna had two goals and Longo tallied a goal and an assist. Emma McLam added two goals and two assists, Shannon Smith had a goal and an assist and Sophia Bica had two assists. Makenzie Mueller scored her first varsity goal in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers won their 30th consecutive match and second consecutive Long Island title. They improved to 19-0 and have outscored their opponents 103-6 this season. Massapequa finished with an 8-7 record.

"I am awed every day at practice with the talent, the dedication and work ethic of these kids. They set this goal and they achieved it," Walling said. "People wanted to say that it was a fluke that we won last year — that’s no fluke."

"We are best friends and listen to one another on and off the field," McKenna said. "Everyone gives their input as to what they think works best, and I believe that is a big reason why we have been so successful."

Northport will face Clarence in the state semifinal at Centereach on Saturday at 2 p.m.

"This team is a unit. They move as one and know each other very well. Most of them have been on this team for more than two or three seasons," Walling said. "It’s priceless what they have and moving forward I expect nothing less than their best. We’ll see where that gets them."
