Newsday's top 50 Long Island field hockey players to start the 2024 season
Newsday's annual look at the top Long Island high school field hockey players for the fall of 2024, listed in alphabetical order. (All are from last season unless otherwise noted.)
Haylie Abrams, D/M, Shoreham-Wading River, Sr.
Abrams, a strong force on both ends of the field, comes up with huge stops and transitions the ball effortlessly with incredible speed.
Lily Acerra, D, Manhasset, Sr.
Acerra is a senior captain and a crucial piece in Manhasset’s midfield. She had three goals and five assists.
Mary Breckling, M, Northport, Sr.
Breckling had seven goals and four assists. She is an aggressive player on both sides of the ball and has speed and a strong shot.
Mariselle Camillone, GK, Northport, Sr.
Camillone made 31 saves and had 13 shutouts.
Alyssa Ciminello, M, Locust Valley, Jr.
She has incredible stickwork, strength and intelligence in the midfield. Ciminello takes control of the game and helps direct both the offense and defense.
Catherine Clavin, F, Garden City, Sr.
This senior captain has eight goals and five assists last season.
Kate Comiskey, GK, Patchogue-Medford, Jr.
Comiskey stopped 90% of the shots she faced, allowing just 10 goals in 14 games.
Luna Coronel, M, Carle Place, Sr.
The Vassar commit controls the pace of the game with her speed and ball control.
Isabella Cunha, M, Carle Place, Sr.
The senior captain is a resilient and versatile player who never quits on the ball.
Charlotte Curtin, F/M, Huntington, Sr.
She is a leader and an impact player who had three goals and six assists. Curtin creates opportunities for the team by bringing the ball up the field and also can score.
Madison DeLeon, F, Clarke, Jr.
DeLeon is the offensive powerhouse for Clarke, totaling eight goals and nine assists.
Parris Duenas, M, Commack, Sr.
The Adelphi commit had five goals and three assists.
Aubrie Eisfeld, M, Bayport-Blue Point, Sr.
The Clemson lacrosse commit is a key part of Bayport-Blue Point’s offensive and defensive corners. She is fast, has strong stick skills and excellent field vision.
Sydney Elizalde, M, Connetquot, Sr.
Elizalde, who had 12 goals and six assists, is a vocal leader for Connetquot.
Olivia Eusanio, M, Harborfields, Jr.
Eusanio had 18 goals and 10 assists (28 points). Her 18 goals ranked second on Long Island and her 28 points were fourth on Long Island. She is committed to Richmond.
Arcangela Haffner, M, Garden City, Sr.
The center midfielder controls the pace of the game. She is a two-year captain who had three goals and four assists as a junior.
Ruby Hasbrouck, D, Northport, Sr.
The Cortland commit helped secure 13 shutouts. The center back has a tremendous ability to block shots and will play a key role on corners.
Aliya Hassett, M, Massapequa, Jr.
Hassett has excellent knowledge of the game and vision of the field. She had two goals and six assists.
Maddison Herr, F, Shoreham Wading River, Soph.
Herr had 16 goals and nine assists. She ranked fifth in goals in Suffolk and sixth in points. Her speed and agility make her a threat.
Sadie Hoffman, M, Miller Place, Sr.
This Cortland commit had six goals and eight assists.
Jillian Kobel, M, Whitman, Jr.
The three-year varsity starter has incredible ball control. At the center midfield position, she will anchor the defense and jumpstart the offense.
Rachel Louie, M, Cold Spring Harbor, Sr.
Louie is a five-year varsity starter who will play field hockey and lacrosse at Rochester. She had two goals and four assists and is a leader on the field.
Kate Macaluso, F, Whitman, Soph.
Macaluso had nine goals and nine assists. She is a fast, tenacious and fearless player with innate ability to score.
Emma Masie, F, Seaford, Sr.
Masie led Seaford with six goals and four assists. She uses her incredible individual stick skills to score goals.
Tessa Matozzo, M, Locust Valley, Soph.
Motazzo is incredibly athletic and performs with strength and has a high IQ on the field.
Caeley Monez, M, Northport, Sr.
She had seven goals and six assists. Monez is a strong right wing with the ability to drive the ball down the sideline.
Cassidy Morrow, M, Massapequa, Sr.
The third-year varsity starter is the backbone of the Massapequa team. The two-year captain is able to maintain possession on the offensive end.
Katelyn Murtha, M, Eastport-South Manor, Soph.
She had 10 goals and three assists.
Haley Naslonski, F, Bay Shore/Islip, Sr.
Her speed and athleticism make her an immediate threat. Naslonski finished with 14 goals and five assists.
Jessica Nodell, M, Sachem North, Sr.
She poses as an offensive threat with her speed and stickwork. Nodell will step into a new role this season after Sachem North graduated six starters.
Samantha O’Connell, D, Carle Place, Sr.
The senior captain is a lockdown defender who can anticipate and intercept passes. O'Connell also has great communication skills.
Kerri O’Donnell, D, East Hampton, Sr.
She is an integral member of the defense and forces turnovers to create transition opportunities for the offense. O'Donnell had seven assists.
Peyton Phillips, F, Ward Melville, Jr.
She had 13 goals and 12 assists. Phillips is able to weave through her opponents by using her speed and stick skills.
Rebecca Palumbo, D, Clarke, Jr.
She started every game last season and was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma in the winter. She has put in work in the offseason to come back stronger.
Morgan Quirk, D, Sachem North, Jr.
As a returning defender, Quirk is incredibly smart and has great field sense. She moves the ball skillfully up the field and has great vision.
Emma Reddin, M/D, Smithtown West, Sr.
Reddin is a threat on both the offensive and defensive end. She had two goals and eight assists and has incredible game IQ and passing abilities.
Kayla Richter, M, Sachem East, Sr.
Richter has a great sense of the field and loves to step up offensively. She had 11 goals and three assists.
Ava Sanchez, F, Sayville, Sr.
The Brockport commit had seven goals and had three assists. Sanchez is quick, agile and has a strong field hockey IQ.
Sofia Scalzo, M, Manhasset, Sr.
The Gettysburg commit is an incredible playmaker and the quarterback of Manhasset’s team. She had three goals and four assists and will be an even greater goal-scoring threat this season.
Caeleigh Schuster, GK, East Hampton, Jr.
The UConn commit possesses a high IQ on the field and is purposeful with their passes. She consistently directs and organizes players.
Emma Shanahan, F, Bayport-Blue Point, Sr.
Shanahan had 14 goals and six assists. She’s fast, a great ball-handler and has tremendous field vision.
Gwendolyn Smith, M, Miller Place, Sr.
The Mercy commit and four-year varsity starter had two goals and six assists.
Jadyn Stoecker, M, Ward Melville, Sr.
She intercepts many passes on the field and creates those turnovers into scoring opportunities.
Catalina Suau, M, Garden City, Jr.
Suau had 11 goals and three assists.
Hadley Torre, D, Ward Melville, Jr.
Torre is strong defender who not only stops her opponents from break opportunities but also uses her speed and skill to create offensive opportunities for her teammates.
Gianna Trotta, M, Floyd, Jr.
The versatile player will take over the middle of the field for Floyd and totaling three goals and 11 assists.
Gianna Ventura, F, East Meadow, Jr.
Ventura totaled 12 goals and six assists.
Lily Viscusi, GK, Harborfields, Sr.
The Salisbury commit made 99 saves, had nine shutouts and allowed just nine goals.
Sophia Weiss, GK, Huntington, Sr.
Weiss made 152 saves.
Katie Young, M, Seaford, Sr.
The center midfielder knows how to control the game. She has incredible strength and can set up her teammates for scoring opportunities.
