Meet Newsday's 2012 All-Long Island football team, selected by Newsday's Bob Herzog, Laura Albanese and Gregg Sarra, in alphabetical order.

TYLER ANDERSON
Sayville, DB, 5-9, 165, Senior
Had his best game, statistically, in a 21-20 loss to Lawrence in the Class III LIC, making six tackles and being named the game’s defensive MVP. Totaled 48 tackles (33 solo) for the season and made four interceptions. Earned All-County honors. Started on last year’s unbeaten LI championship and Rutgers Trophy team.

TYLER ANDREASSI
Sachem North, LB, 5-10, 195, Senior
A hand injury sidelined him for three games but he still totaled 86 tackles (72 solo). On offense, he ran for 998 yards from the fullback slot. A highly regarded long-stick midfielder, Andreassi has committed to play lacrosse at Stony Brook.

BILLY ANDRLE
East Meadow, RB, 5-10, 210, Junior
Fullback known for his physical play, Andrle barely took a breather this year, carrying 163 times for 1,307 yards -- an average of 8 yards per carry –- for 23 TDs. He added four two-point conversions. On defense, the middle linebacker had 49 tackles, 11 for a loss, and 4.5 sacks.

JOE CAPOBIANCO
Lawrence, QB, 5-11, 205, Junior
Completed 129-for-166 (77.7 percent) for 2,609 yards, a Nassau-record 38 touchdowns with only three interceptions. Added six TDs rushing and a receiving TD. Most of all, Capobianco made the most of his team’s myriad of offensive weapons, allowing Lawrence to go undefeated while scoring an average of 48 points per game.

JAKE CARLOCK
Babylon, DB, 6-2, 200, Junior
One of the most versatile players on Long Island. He made nine interceptions, returning three for touchdowns. Also had 52 tackles. A receiving threat on offense, Carlock caught 31 passes for 598 yards and four TDs. He returned three punts and one kickoff for TDs and scored six 2-point conversions.

GIANCARLO CARVALHO
East Meadow, T, 6-2, 275, Senior
For two years, Carvalho cleared a path for Billy Andrle, bolstering an offense that amassed 7,126 yards and 94 touchdowns in that same span. On defense, he had 31 tackles this year, three for a loss, and added two sacks.

STEVEN CASALI
Sachem East, MLB, 6-2, 220, Senior
Won Hansen Award as Suffolk’s outstanding player for his sideline-to-sideline performances at linebacker (104 tackles) and bruising running style (1,895 yards, 20 TDs). Also won Suffolk linebacker and running back awards and the Rob Burnett Award as Long Island’s top defensive player. Will play linebacker at UMass.

MARC COLES
Floyd, LB, 6-1, 220, Junior
Coles led the Class I Long Island champions with 93 tackles (64 solo). Big, strong and fast, he also an excellent blocking fullback.

SCOTT D'ANTONIO
Garden City, All-Purpose, 6-1, 170, Senior
A heady outside linebacker, D’Antonio totaled 66 solo tackles and 44 assists. At tailback, he used his strength and speed to spearhead the Trojans running game, amassing 498 yards on 62 carries, an average of eight yards per carry.

ANTHONY DENUNZIO
MacArthur, DE, 6-3, 225, Senior
Was the only senior on the offensive line, where he played tackle, but really flourished at defensive end, making 35 tackles with a team-high six sacks. He added a fumble recovery. DeNunzio’s strength was reading screens and pursuing plays from the back side, helping limit opponents to 10.5 points-per-game.

BRIAN DUNNE
Chaminade, MLB, 6-2, 220, Senior
The defensive MVP of the CHSFL championship game had 46 tackles and 26 assists. He added three sacks, one pass deflection, forced a fumble and recovered one. In a 17-16 victory over three-time defending champ St. Anthony’s, Dunne stuffed Anthony Anderson on fourth-and-1, leading to the game-winning field goal.

RYAN FEINER
Farmingdale, MLB, 5-10, 210, Senior
Made an 113 tackles, seven for losses, spearheading the Dalers’ stingy defense and cementing his name as the third-best tackler in school history. Feiner added two sacks and two forced fumbles to help a team that allowed one touchdown or fewer in seven of its 12 games.

JOHN HAGGART
Sayville, DE, 6-1, 213, Senior
Unstoppable edge-rusher had 11.5 sacks among his 41 tackles. Stony Brook liked him so much it offered him a scholarship to play linebacker at the next level. A force on offense, too, Haggart, a second-team All-L.I. selection last year, led the Golden Flashes (11-1) with 1,430 yards rushing and 21 TDs.

JAMES HIGGINS
Connetquot, WR, 6-2, 185, Senior
One of primary reasons Thunderbirds improved from 1-7 in 2011 to Suffolk I regular-season champions this season. Big target was a favorite of quarterback Brian McKean. Caught 45 passes for 800 yards and eight touchdowns. Also contributed on defense, playing nickel back in passing situations where he made four interceptions.

TOM KELLEHER
MacArthur, RB, 6-2, 200, Senior
Everybody knew he was getting the ball, but defenses still couldn’t stop him. The bulldozing running back gained 1,377 yards, and his 20 TDs were a school record. Added 10 catches for 154 yards and two scores and, in limited time on defense, chipped in 15 tackles and two interceptions.

JAMES MANGINELLI
Newfield, DT, 6-3, 255, Senior
Had a big senior year, even though his team missed playoffs this fall. Broke through for nine sacks and was also sturdy against the run. For his three-year varsity career, Manginelli recorded 28 sacks.

STEVE MILLS
Sachem North, C, 6-1, 220, Senior
Won Zellner Award as top Suffolk lineman and anchored an offensive line that helped Flaming Arrows go 7-3 and average 30 points a game. Mills paved way for emerging backfield stars Malik Pierre and Kevin Bragaglia.

A.J. OTRANTO
Floyd
Capped off brilliant career, that featured three Long Island Championship game appearances, with two passing TDs and two rushing TDs in Class I victory over Farmingdale. Fiery team leader and big-game performer. In senior season, passed for 1,440 yards and 21 TDs; rushed for 434 yards (an 8.35 average) and eight TDs.

EDDIE ROBINSON
Lawrence, WR, 6-1, 195, Senior
The sure-handed receiver had 51 catches for 1,156 yards and a Long Island record 19 touchdowns. On defense, he made 59 tackles, forcing three fumbles and making four interceptions. He returned one of those picks 30 yards for what proved to be the game-winning TD against Sayville in Class III LIC.

MIKE SINATRO
Farmingdale, G, 6-3, 255, Senior
Sinatro led Farmingdale to a school-record point total of 375 and a Nassau I title while also doing major damage on defense. Made 42 tackles, 10 for a loss, and added four sacks. He knocked down three passes and forced two fumbles in 12 games.

BRETT STEWART
Garden City, All-Purpose, 6-0, 190, Junior
First-year starting quarterback went 131-for-241 with 1,676 yards and 23 touchdowns, both school records, and added 178 carries for 919 yards and nine touchdowns. In victory over Riverhead in Class II Long Island Championship, he passed for 200 yards and two TDS and rushed for 138 yards and two TDs.

JOVAUN TOMLINSON
Baldwin, DB, 5-10, 175, Senior
Keyed Nassau I title win over Oceanside, rushing for 176 yards and two touchdowns -- including the go-ahead score -– on 16 carries. The speedster finished with 20 TDs and 1,357 yards on 122 carries. On defense, he added 22 tackles, one interception and deflected seven passes.

JOE TUSTIN
St. Anthony's, G, 6-2, 290, Senior
Led a big, mobile offensive line that made running game the featured attraction in the Friars’ vaunted triple-option attack. Tustin played right guard and that was the direction that Anthony Anderson (682 yards), Greg Galligan (397), Jordan Gowins (443), Niam Jones (496) and Brendan Femiano (470) often ran. Offered by Army.

ZANE WASP
Chaminade, K, 6-0, 170, Senior
Made his mark when it counted, nailing the winning 33-yard field goal with 52 seconds left to defeat St. Anthony’s, 17-16, and win Chaminade its first CHSFL title since 1998. Converted 44-of-46 extra points and made three of four field goals, accounting for 53 points. Added 35 touchbacks.

BRANDON WATSON
Wantagh, DB, 6-1, 160, Senior
Intercepted eight passes, returning one for a touchdown. Rushed for nine touchdowns and 1,072 yards, caught 55 passes for 749 yards with 10 TDs and scored on a punt return and a kickoff return. Punched Wantagh’s ticket to Nassau II final with 20-yard TD in OT.

TOM ZENKER
Chaminade, WR, 6-3, 200, Senior
Caught three scoring passes against Iona Prep in CHSFL semifinal and had 28 catches for 693 yards for six TDs (averaging more than 24 yards per catch) and added a rushing a rushing score. As a blocker, he helped Chaminade rush for more than 2,000 yards in regular season.

CHSFL COACH OF THE YEAR: STEPHEN BOYD
Chaminade
Boyd led Chaminade to its first Catholic league championship since 1998, defeating St. Anthony's after losing 18 in a row to the CHSFL juggernaut. The Flyers went 10-1, with their only loss coming in a 24-23 Sept. 29 loss to the Friars.

NASSAU COACH OF THE YEAR: BUDDY KRUMENACKER
Farmingdale
Krumenacker helped craft a 10-2 season and a trip to the Long Island championship that included postseason wins over Plainview, Massapequa and Baldwin. The Dalers allowed a little under 14 points per game and allowed nine points or fewer in seven of their 12 games.

SUFFOLK COACH OF THE YEAR: RICK PUNZONE
Babylon
After a three-year absence from the LIC – a drought by Babylon standards – Punzone restored Panther Pride with a 12-0 season that culminated with a victory over Roosevelt in this season’s Class IV title game and the first Rutgers Trophy in school history. Punzone has an 87-19 record in 10 seasons.
