Anthony Lucarelli spotted Cameron Jordan on a corner route and the Half Hollow Hills West quarterback hit his receiver for a 72-yard touchdown pass against North Babylon last week.

And that was just the first play of the game.

Lucarelli, a senior, was a surgical 11-for-12 for 355 yards and six touchdowns to help the Colts (3-1) to a 48-0 win over the previously undefeated Bulldogs (3-1) in Suffolk II.

The three-year starter also rushed for 46 yards and a TD on five carries, and set school single-game records for passing yards and TDs, Hills West coach Kyle Madden said. "I didn't really notice until after the game when Coach told me what happened," Lucarelli said. "I was just out there playing. I wasn't thinking about records or anything, I was just trying to win."

It was the kind of performance the Colts needed, Madden said, especially after a devastating loss to Newfield on Sept. 19 that forced the team to "re-evaluate some things." Madden said Lucarelli's work ethic in practice, positive attitude and on-field results helped Hills West bounce back from the 41-13 loss.

Through Friday, Lucarelli is 27-for-44 for 633 yards and 10 TDs with no interceptions. Yesterday he broke his own yardage record, passing for 435, and he was 26-for-38 for five TDs. "Anthony really showed what kind of quarterback he is this past week," Madden said. "Things happen with seniors where they start realizing the end of their year is fast approaching and kids, especially the good ones, start stepping up their game."

Lucarelli, also a defender on the lacrosse team, said he's not taking anything for granted after last football season, where he played through the pain of a torn labrum. "I didn't have a lot of power in my throws and I was inaccurate," Lucarelli said. But that's all in the past thanks to surgery during the offseason, he added. "We're just going to try and win the day."
