Shoreham-Wading River has relied on its defense all year. The Wildcats had allowed only 36 points as they entered the Suffolk IV semifinals against two-time defending Long Island Class IV champion Babylon.

The defense did its job - led by Ethan Wiederkehr's 11 tackles and two sacks. Meanwhile, the playmaking abilities of Danny Hughes, Isreal Squires and Chris Rosati provided the highlights as the No. 1 Wildcats (10-0) beat No. 4 Babylon, 56-0, Saturday.

Hughes ran for 116 yards and four touchdowns, and went 4-for-4 for 125 yards and another score. Squires had 95 yards receiving and a touchdown, and added a 70-yard touchdown run. Rosati ran for 140 yards and two touchdowns.

"At any minute, any of those guys can break a big play, cause a turnover or make a big tackle," coach Matt Millheiser said. "They're game-breakers and they played really well in the biggest game of the year so far."

SWR led 28-0 at the half and poured on 21 more points in the third quarter, including two touchdown runs by Hughes.

"Danny's a great player and he's smart," Millheiser said. "It makes the play-calling a little easier when you have a guy like that."

SWR made everything look easy Saturday. Next up: Facing No. 2 Glenn in the final at Stony Brook University at noon Saturday.
