Hampton Bays football player taken to hospital
A Hampton Bays High School football player who was rushed by helicopter to a hospital during a game Saturday afternoon was not showing signs of a serious injury hours later, a school district spokesman said.
The player, who was not identified, said he didn't feel well after taking a hit during a game against Center Moriches and was flown to Stony Brook University Hospital as a precaution, said the spokesman, Michael Conte.
"He is alert and resting, and all tests that have been performed to date have been negative," he said.
Southampton Town Police said they received a call at 5:07 p.m. about an injury on the football field in Hampton Bays.
A Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance official said emergency responders rushed the player off the school grounds and to the ambulance company's headquarters, where a Suffolk County Police medevac helicopter touched down.
Suffolk police said they received the call at 5:13 and dispatched the medevac.
