Hoerter block helps save New Hyde Park
Brian Hoerter blocked a field-goal attempt as time expired, helping New Hyde Park hang onto a 27-25 win over Floral Park in Nassau III. Steven Chambers’ touchdown and Christian Carrick’s PAT gave New Hyde Park a 27-19 lead with seven minutes left, but Floral Park’s Cole Horan answered with a nine-yard run that cut the gap to 27-25 with five minutes left. Chambers had 47 rushing yards on 11 carries and caught two passes for 55 yards. He also had an interception. Hoerter ran for 60 yards on six carries and had 12 tackles.
Bethpage 22, Division 15: Thomas Galgano connected with Pat Luzzi on an 11-yard touchdown pass on Bethpage’s first possession of overtime, and Matt Collins squashed Divison’s ensuing opportunity with an interception. Division’s Vinny Inciarrano’s 21 yard touchdown pass to George Hafner with 4:00 left tied the game at 15. Luzzi caught three passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns. Galgano passed for 148 yards, made nine solo tackles, three assists, and two sacks for Bethpage (4-1).
Roosevelt 42, Lynbrook 21: Corey Bull ran 17 times for 276 yards and touchdowns of 64, 78 and 73 yards to lead Roosevelt (4-1). Kevon Hall, who had a 70-yard touchdown run to cap the scoring, had 105 rushing yards on 11 carries.
South Side 24, Valley Stream North 12: Shane Batyr completed 15 of 20 passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns to lead South Side (2-3). Johnny Pickett ran 22 times for 134 yards. Chris Coico had two sacks.
Hewlett 55, Glen Cove 6: Jake Levitz ran 64 yards for the first score of the game, and Daniel Hillsberg’s 39-yard touchdown run gave Hewlett a 12-0 lead. Hillsberg ran for 102 yards and three touchdowns on six carries. Jordan Carlo rushed for 83 yards on four carries, including a 43-yard touchdown. Jarel Wilson and Carlo each had seven tackles to lead Hewlett (2-3).
