Nassau Week 4 football roundup
NASSAU I
Oladipiu Karimu had 109 rushing yards and two touchdowns, including the go-ahead touchdown with less than two minutes left in the fourth quarter as Uniondale defeated Westbury, 26-22, in Nassau Conference I football Saturday.
Apollo Simmons caught a 29-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter from Thomas Fletcher before Fletcher ran in for the two-point conversion to give Westbury a 22-20 lead. Jordyn Davis had seven tackles and one sack for Uniondale (1-3).
Massapequa 35, Valley Stream Central 7: Tyler Villalta had a 13-yard touchdown run and an 8-yard touchdown reception from Paul Dulanto for Massapequa (4-0).
East Meadow 21, Hicksville 6: Quarterback Brandon Tauber rushed for two 4-yard touchdowns, the second of which gave East Meadow a 14-0 lead in the fourth quarter. After Hicksville cut the lead to 14-6, Isaiah McIntosh’s 30-yard touchdown run iced the game for East Meadow (3-1). Joe Festa ran for 94 yards on 17 carries.
Syosset 28, Oceanside 0: Mustafa Mozawalla threw two touchdown passes for Syosset (2-2). He had an 81-yard touchdown pass to Nicholas Padula. Kevin Hargrave had a 30-yard interception return for a touchdown to give Syosset a 21-0 lead in the third quarter.
Baldwin 34, Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK 7: Anthony Byron rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries and Vaughdrea Johnson rushed for 73 yards and a pair of scores on nine carries to lead Baldwin (3-1). Cedric Jean-Pierre had a 74-yard touchdown run, Lincoln Dacosta had eight tackles and Kwasi Bonsu and Rodney Mills each had two tackles for a loss for Baldwin.
NASSAU II
Jeff Conway had some spectacular plays on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball for Long Beach.
Conway made a hit in the backfield and Jack Miller joined in on the tackle to hault the two-point conversion attempt on the final play of the game as Long Beach defeated South Side, 28-27, in overtime in Nassau Conference II football. Jack Lozito had a 20-yard touchdown run, his fourth of the game, in overtime for South Side before the Long Beach defense made the defensive stand on the two-point attempt.
Conway ran in an 7-yard touchdown on third-and-goal in overtime after Hayden Sofield ran a quarterback sneak on fourth-and-1 from the 10-yard line for Long Beach (3-1).
Conway ran in an 8-yard touchdown with five minutes left in the fourth quarter to cut South Side’s lead to two points. On ensuing the two-point conversion, Conway rolled right under pressure, scrambled around and from about 10 yards in the backfield found Jack Skarren in the back of the end zone for the tying two-point conversion. Conway passed for two touchdowns and ran for two scores.
Mepham 43, New Hyde Park 21: Dom Novello rushed for 160 yards and four touchdowns and completed 10-of-20 passes for 155 yards and a touchdown for Mepham (4-0). Steven Mulqueen had a 47-yard touchdown reception. Christopher Norris had five carries for 52 yards and three receptions for 50 yards. Timothy Harrs recovered a fumble in the end zone for a TD.
MacArthur 40, Sewanhaka 14: Rocco Hogan had 19 carries for 241 yards and three touchdowns to lead MacArthur (2-2). He also recorded an interception and recovered a fumble. Joey Forchelli added 15 carries for 105 yards and a touchdown. Jesse Seder blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown in the second quarter. Ben Velasquez had two sacks and a fumble recovery.
Bellmore JFK 41, Herricks 7: Ray Torchia rushed for 145 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries and Joe Vaccaro completed 3 of 4 passes for 118 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 62 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries for Bellmore JFK (2-2). Nick Pizzirusso had two receptions for 82 yards and two touchdowns.
Garden City 47, Elmont 0: Cole Webber completed 10 of 13 passes for 131 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for a 1-yard score for Garden City (4-0). Steve Finnell had two receiving touchdowns and a 32-yard touchdown run.
Calhoun 37, Roslyn/Friends Academy 14: Connor Faughnan rushed for 224 yards and four touchdowns on 23 carries, Dylan Grech returned an interception for a touchdown and Stephen Vicino had a touchdown run for Calhoun (2-2). Ben Anmuth threw two touchdown passes for Roslyn/Friends Academy (0-4).
NASSAU III
Will McMullen ran the ball 30 times for 153 yards and a touchdown, and rushed the winning two-point conversion in overtime as Bethpage defeated Manhasset, 22-21, in Nassau Conference III football. Joseph Miranda ran a yard for the overtime touchdown, and McMullen’s two-point conversion ensued.
McMullen also caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from Sean Smith in the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime for Bethpage (3-1).
Matt Cargiulo, who had three total touchdowns, had an 11-yard touchdown run to start the overtime period for Manhasset before Bethpage countered with the touchdown and two-point conversion.
Carey 34, Division 14: William Tolliver rushed for 161 yards and four touchdowns on 14 carries to lead Carey (3-1). TJ Wakely added 113 yards on five carries, including an 82-yard touchdown, to give Carey a 21-0 lead in the second quarter. Michael Verderosa added 55 yards on two carries.
Wantagh 42, Valley Stream North 7: Nick Cupelli ran for 94 yards on five carries, including the first two touchdowns four minutes, into the game giving Wantagh (4-0) a 14-0 lead. Anthony Reale had 101 yards on four touches and Joe Legovich completed all four of his passes for 76 yards and two touchdowns. TJ Carlo had two interceptions with one returned for a touchdown and forced a fumble to lead the defense.
Lynbrook 15, Hewlett 0: Michael Fagen rushed a 6-yard touchdown and had a two-point conversion for Lynbrook (2-2). Daniel Barroso added a 1-yard touchdown run.
Roosevelt 40, Glen Cove 18: B.J. Norman rushed for 223 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries for Roosevelt (3-1). Bakail Talmadge had five carries for 78 yards and a touchdown that helped Roosevelt score 26 unanswered points in the second half.
Plainedge 49, Floral Park 7: Joe Cassese rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries to lead Plainedge (4-0). Mike DeMatteo added 50 yards on 12 carries, including a 4-yard touchdown run. Caden Morra completed 3 of 3 passes for 88 yards, including a 61-yard touchdown pass to Vincent Cavaliere to give Plainedge a 42-7 lead in the third quarter.
NASSAU IV
Chad Wesley connected with Michael Williams on a 19-yard touchdown pass with 47 seconds left in the fourth quarter, and Norman Brown ran in the two-point conversion to give Malverne a 28-22 victory over Clarke in Nassau Conference IV.
Wesley rushed for 112 yards on 16 carries and completed all four pass attempts for 75 yards and three touchdowns. Brown ran for 146 yards and a score on 25 carries for Malverne (3-1).
Mineola 21, Valley Stream South 15: Lukas Goring ran in a 1-yard touchdown and Jack Ryan connected with Rusty Carr on the ensuing two-point conversion pass for the final margin with eight minutes left in the fourth quarter for Mineola in Nassau IV. Jack Franz ran in a 7-yard touchdown as Mineola (3-1) cut Valley Stream South’s lead to 15-13, in the third quarter. Franz also caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Ryan.
North Shore 28, Island Trees 0: Peter Liotta rushed for 89 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries and Nick La Rosa rushed for 116 yards on 15 carries, including an 8-yard TD run for North Shore. La Rosa’s score was followed by a two-point conversion pass from Liotta to James Toner, which put North Shore (4-0) up 14-0 in the first quarter.
Lawrence 21, Oyster Bay 16: Zaire Garraway had 12 carries for 210 yards and two touchdowns for Lawrence. His 75-yard TD in the third quarter extended the lead to 21-8. Joseph Gotti’s 1-yard rushing TD and two-point conversion run with about a minute remaining cut the Oyster Bay deficit to five. Lawrence (1-3) recovered the ensuing onside kick.
West Hempstead 38, Cold Spring Harbor 0: Jonathan Balthazard rushed for 118 yards and a TD on eight carries and A’Lorenz Chatman rushed for 97 yards and two TDs on eight carries for West Hempstead (4-0).
Locust Valley 42, Carle Place/Wheatley 7: Charlie Pisciotta had eight carries for 216 yards and two TDs to lead Locust Valley (2-2). Christian Corey threw for a score and a two-point conversion.
