Suffolk Division IV football Week 2 roundup
Ryan Filippi’s 10-yard touchdown pass to Ciaran Laffey with 1:10 left in the fourth quarter, followed by an extra point from Daniel Owens, lifted Port Jefferson over Mount Sinai, 13-12, in Suffolk IV Saturday. Filippi was 9-for-14 passing for 106 yards. Anthony Pipia had eight carries for 104 yards and one touchdown for Port Jefferson (1-1). Pipia also made 10.5 tackles and Willy Rodriguez had 10 tackles and two sacks. Mt. Sinai played without eight players who were suspended for their roles in a fight at the end of their Week 1 game against Bayport-Blue Point.
Kings Park 31, Miller Place 20: Kings Park scored two touchdowns in the final 35 seconds to claim a comeback win. Miller Place took a 20-18 lead on Joe’ll Spagnuolo’s 70-yard touchdown run and the point after with 2:49 left. Then Kings Park (2-0) went 80 yards in eight plays for the lead. John Flynn scored on a 19-yard run with 35 seconds to go to make it 24-20. Kyle Weeks tacked on another touchdown with 17 seconds remaining on a 40-yard interception return. Weeks, a junior quarterback, went 15-for-20 for 149 yards and a TD and also ran 23 times for 128 yards and a score. Ralph Perangelo had eight receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown for Kings Park. Spagnuolo had touchdown runs of 75, 70 and 71 yards for Miller Place (0-2).
Glenn 29, Center Moriches 0: Chris Franzese was 17-for-18 with 187 yards passing and two touchdowns, ran for 84 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries, caught two passes for 47 yards and a touchdown and made five tackles to lead Glenn (1-1). Kahran King ran for 50 yards on seven carries and had two catches for 35 yards and a touchdown. Melkin Chavez led Glenn with six tackles.
Bayport-Blue Point 42, Shoreham-Wading River 14: Brady Clark went 15-of-23 for 212 yards and four touchdowns to lead Bayport-Blue Point (2-0). Clark also rushed for 58 yards on 10 carries and JJ Aiello rushed for 52 yards and two touchdowns. Aiello also made six catches for 103 yards and two more touchdowns. Maclin Keyser and Dan Aiello both had touchdowns on the day from Clark.
Babylon 42, Greenport 6: Andrew DiPalma rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns . His 16-yard score in the first quarter broke a scoreless tie. Later in the first quarter, DiPalma added a 70-yarder. Aidan Winter’s 52-yard interception return in the second quarter put Babylon ahead 35-0. Winter rushed for 119 yards and three touchdowns on seven carries, made seven tackles, and had 74 return yards. Ben King made nine tackles and Jack Pinna made five for Babylon (2-0).
