2014 All-Long Island girls basketball team

BOOGIE BROZOSKI
Long Island Player of the Year
Long Island Lutheran, Guard, Junior
For all of the championships and awards she has earned, perhaps the best compliment to be paid to Lauren “Boogie’’ Brozoski is this: In times of crisis, her team never panics because she is never flustered. That Brozoski had 18 points and four assists -- earning tournament MVP honors -- in leading the Crusaders to their first state Class AA Federation title surprised few. Brozoski averaged 19.5 points, 6.1 assists and 2.2 steals in leading Lutheran through a challenging schedule and to its third Federation championship in four years.

KATIE DOHERTY
Suffolk Player of the Year
Sachem East, Guard, Senior
The Holy Cross-bound star averaged 20.9 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.7 assists in leading Sachem East to a second straight Suffolk Class AA title, in what was expected to be a down season. Doherty scored 13 points in the final three minutes as the Flaming Arrows rallied to beat Huntington in the semifinals, and had 30 points and 15 rebounds in the county final against North Babylon. Doherty is a two-time All-Long Island selection in basketball and field hockey.

JORDAN AGUSTUS
St. Mary's, Forward, Junior
A versatile power forward who dominated in the paint, Agustus averaged 15.3 points and 9.1 rebounds. The two-time All-Long Island pick was a matchup nightmare, given her quickness, ball-handling and improved perimeter skills at 6-feet. Agustus, along with star point guard Mei-Lyn Bautista, led the Gaels to the CHSAA league title and the state semifinals.

ALEXANDRA CANTWELL
North Shore, Guard, Junior
With her vision and relentlessness in driving to the basket, the point guard directed North Shore’s uptempo offense. The Lafayette commit showcased her talents with six triple-doubles, and averaged 13.6 points, 7.4 assists, 6.8 rebounds and 4.2 steals in leading the Vikings to a second Nassau Class A title in three years.

ARELLA GUIRANTES
Bellport, Forward/Guard, Junior
The do-it-all dynamo filled the stat sheet. Her 33.6 points led Long Island and was the seventh-best average among high school girls in the country. She also accounted for 17.2 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game. Guirantes has led Bellport to two consecutive playoff appearances.

BRIANNA JONES
North Babylon, Forward, Junior
Difficult to contain on her drives to the rim or on pull-up jumpers where she would easily rise above the defender, Jones averaged 17.1 points, made 68 threes. She shot 37 percent from three-point range. The Division I recruit also grabbed 10.3 rebounds per game while leading the Bulldogs to a second straight Suffolk Class AA final.

KATIE LAVELLE
Long Island Lutheran, Forward, Senior
Regarded by many as the best all-around defensive player on Long Island, the 5-10 Lavelle used her length, footwork and instincts in playing lockdown perimeter and post defense against several elite scorers. The Vermont-bound forward averaged 10.1 points and 8.3 rebounds as Lutheran marched to a Class AA Federation title.

MAKEDA NICHOLAS
North Babylon, Center, Senior
With her signature up-and-under move down low, a consistent mid-range game and the ability to shoot from deep, the Delaware-bound star averaged 17 points per game and had 25 points and 20 rebounds in the Suffolk Class AA final. The athletic, 6-1 center also averaged 13.1 rebounds and 6.5 blocks per game.

CHASTITY TAYLOR
St. Anthony's, Forward, Senior
A dynamic 5-10 forward headed to Delaware, she averaged 12.7 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.8 steals. Taylor’s speed, fluid moves and ability to finish in traffic made her a terror in transition, and she elevated her game with an improved jumper. She scored 26 points and had seven rebounds in the state Federation semifinal.

CHARISE WILSON
St. Anthony's, Guard, Senior
With her quickness, deft dribbling and smooth pull-up jumper, Wilson led the CHSAA in scoring with 17.1 points per game, was named the league MVP and guided the Friars to their first state CHSAA Class AA championship. The Northeastern-bound shooting guard also averaged 3.8 assists a game.
