Charise Wilson, a Newsday All-Long second team selection last season, has left North Babylon and transferred to St. Anthony's, according to North Babylon coach Debbie Brajevich. Wilson, a sophomore point guard, will have to sit out the rest of the season by CHSAA rules.

"She left the school today," Brajevich said. "I'm surprised it took this long. I thought it would happen sooner. I'm surprised she's willing to sit out. Players do what is best for them. I sent her a text and wished her the best."

Wilson has been with the Bulldogs since seventh grade. She averaged 16 points and six rebounds last season.

"She's going to be a nice player," Brajevich. "As a coach you can see it coming. Players have to do what's best for them. It's usually the players not making the choices."

North Babylon went 20-1 last season and lost in the Suffolk Class AA semifinals. The Bulldogs, considered one of the favorites, have a lot of young talent and will now rely on freshman Brianna Jones and sophomore Makeda Nicholas to lead the way.

Wilson played the first two games of the season for North Babylon.
