Girls soccer players to watch in 2015

KAYLA ARESTIVO, St. Anthony's, M, Sr.

Kayla Arestivo is a technical player who is strong with the ball at her feet. Arestivo had nine goals and five assists last season while guiding St. Anthony's to the CHSAA state title. She's bound for Lehigh University.

HOPE BRESLIN, Massapequa, F, Jr.

Hope Breslin had 10 goals and four assists for the defending Class AA state champions. She's an offensive force who can create off the dribble and take on defenders one-on-one.

JILLIAN COLUCCI, Port Jefferson, F, Jr.

Jillian Colucci led Long Island in points with 29 goals and 12 assists. She is difficult to mark with her tremendous speed and footwork and guided Port Jefferson to the state championship game last season.

VANESSA COSTANTINO, West Islip, F, Sr.

An explosive striker, Vanessa Costatino had 11 goals and five assists for the county champions. She wins balls in the air, strikes the ball well and is a threat to score from anywhere in the offensive third. Costantino is bound for Syracuse for lacrosse.

ALICIA D'AOUST, Smithtown West, F, Soph.

Alicia D'Aoust is difficult to mark with her breakaway speed and tremendous ball skills. She scored 12 goals and had five assists while leading the Bulls to the county championship game. She recently verbally committed to Rutgers.

KERRY DEFLIESE, Garden City, D, Sr.

Kerry Defliese is strong in the air, tough on the ball and has great leg strength. She anchored the defense for the Trojans, which advanced to the Class A county championship game. Defliese is bound for Syracuse for lacrosse.

ALLY DIEZ, South Side, M, Jr.

Ally Diez is a playmaker who had eight assists for the defending Long Island champions. With her foot skills, her sense of the field and her speed, Diez helped guide the Cyclones to the state tournament with her ability to develop goals for teammates.

JULIA DUFFY, Oceanside, F/M, Sr.

Julia Duffy has exceptional speed and a great touch on the ball. She had seven goals and three assists last season, and her ball control enables her to create or her own shot or distribute to teammates. She's bound for LIU Post.

MELANIE HINGHER, Massapequa, D, Sr.

Melanie Hingher is dominant in the air and the anchor for the defending state champs. She was part of a defensive unit that didn't allow a goal in the postseason. At 6-1, Hingher uses her height to win 50-50 balls. She's bound for Fairfield University.

TAYLOR IACONO, Calhoun, F, Sr.

Taylor Iacono is speedy, skilled and knowledgeable on the wing. She had five goals and three assists last season. Iacono receives the ball well and is a threat to turn on a defender or set up scoring opportunities off of her crosses.

EMILY JONAS, Hicksville, D, Sr.

Emily Jonas is a physical and strong centerback for county runner-up Hickeville. She took over at sweeper in the playoffs because of injury and performed very well in the title game. She's very strong with the ball, can create out of the back and scored four goals last season.

LYDIA KESSEL, Shoreham-Wading River, GK, Soph.

Lydia Kessel had 17 shutouts and allowed only five goals last season while leading Shoreham-Wading River to its first girls soccer county title since 1987. She is great in the air and closes gaps quickly.

DANIELLE MICHELINI, East Meadow, M, Sr.

Danielle Michelini is an all-around talent with a strong foot and playmaking ability. Her stats -- two goals and two assists -- are deceiving. She is a creator who makes the pass that leads to the pass that leads to the goal.

ARIANNA MONTEFUSCO, MacArthur, F, Sr.

Arianna Montefusco shoots with force and led Conference AA-I with 12 goals last season. She always puts herself in the right position to find the back of the net and unleashes a strong and accurate shot. She is bound for Manhattan College.

TAYLOR MORENO, Huntington, GK, Sr.

Taylor Moreno is a tactical keeper who comes off her line and plays angles well. She had eight shutouts last season, including a 2-0 upset over No. 3 Ward Melville in the playoffs, and was named large school goalkeeper of the year. She's headed to UNC for lacrosse.

MARY O'HARA, Islip, M, Sr.

Mary O'Hara wins balls, knows how to score and distribute and is a solid defender. She had six goals and six assists while leading the Buccaneers to the semifinals and is headed to Florida Atlantic University.

RACHEL ROSEN, Port Washington, M, Jr.

Rachel Rosen can create, defend and help transition to the attack. With her ability to control the ball and distribute, she helps connect the defense to the attack. She is solid in the air and a great communicator on the field.

DANA SCHERIFF, North Babylon, F, Sr.

Dana Scheriff set a single-season school record with 23 goals last year. She has great speed, can take the ball out of the air, shoot with both feet and fire a liner from 30 yards out. She is bound for Monmouth University.

BRIDGET PATCH, St. John the Baptist, F, Sr.

Highly skilled with a powerful shot, Bridget Patch had 18 goals and 10 assists. With her speed, strength and skill, she has been one of the top scorers in Long Island over the last few seasons. She's bound for Virginia Tech.

FRANCESCA VENEZIA, St. Anthony's, F, Sr.

Francesca Venezia led the CHSAA state champions with 19 goals last season. She turns on defenders, finishes her opportunities and creates for those around her. She's bound for Boston College.
