CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Hannah Steffens made 28 saves to keep Smithtown Christian in the game but the Knights fell, 6-1, to Chateaugay in the girls Class D state soccer semifinals at Tompkins Community College.

Kristina Reuter scored with 2:04 remaining to get Smithtown Christian (9-6-1) on the board but the story for the Knights was the play of the keeper Steffens, who also broke up six one-one-one chances.

"It's unheard of for a goalkeeper to make that many stops," assistant coach Steve Furio said. "Hannah Steffens saved us from six other goals - she kept this team in the game with her heart. In the last two minutes of the game she was still pushing them to get up, turn around and get the ball up the field. Hannah Steffens truly was the heart of this team today."

This was Smithtown Christian's fifth consecutive trip to the state semifinals.
