High school sports roundup: Brentwood's Marquese Dennis sets school record with 53 points
Marquese Dennis set a Brentwood program record for points in a game on Tuesday. Dennis scored 53 points, breaking Mitch Kupchak’s record of 52 points, according to assistant coach David Berger, in a 96-25 victory over Central Islip in Suffolk League I boys basketball on Tuesday.
Kupchak went on to play 10 years in the NBA and is currently the GM of the Charlotte Hornets. Josh Ramos added 11 assists for Brentwood (12-3).
MONDAY’S GAMES
Connetquot 83, Sachem North 79: Chris Marks scored 14 of Connetquot’s 16 points in overtime, including making all eight of his foul shots, with six coming in the final two minutes of overtime, for Connetquot in Suffolk II. Marks finished with 22 points.
Peter Pinero hit a layup with 1.5 seconds left in the fourth quarter to tie the score at 67 for Connetquot (4-12). Carson Turissini added 17 points.
Brayden Tappin led Sachem North (3-12) with 16 points. Andrew Eaton added 15 points and Gio Gandolfi had 11 points.
Half Hollow Hills West 57, Rocky Point 54: Vince Corso drilled the winnng three-pointer with 1.2 seconds left in overtime to break a tie at 54 for Hills West (8-8) in Suffolk IV. Corso finished with 16 points and Jesse Brooks had 19 points. Casmere Morrow had 19 points for Rocky Point (8-7).
East Islip 54, Eastport-South Manor 51: Romeo Soriano scored 25 points and hit two tiebreaking three-pointers in the fourth quarter to lead East Islip (9-8). John Talt added 17 points.
Deer Park 49, West Islip 45: Ethan Nelson’s 15-foot jump shot gave Deer Park a 49-45 lead with 18 seconds left in the fourth quarter in Suffolk III. Hayden Lovinsky had six steals and DiMaunt’e Gardner finished with 17 points, 14 rebounds, six assists, and six steals for Deer Park (9-6).
Wyandanch 65, Hampton Bays 62: Jerimiah Webb had 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists and Jordan Parks had 12 points and three steals to lead Wyandanch (9-6) in Suffolk V. Patrick Donahue scored 33 points for Hampton Bays (6-9).
North Shore 71, Lawrence 56: Vasilis Triantafyllou scored 40 points and scored the 1,000th point of his career with North Shore (15-3) in Nassau A-VII. Tamir Thomas lead Lawrence with 15 points and Nahmire Young added 14.
Malverne 57, Clarke 55: Chad Wesley had 24 points and six assists for Malverne (6-11) in Nassau A-VII.
Friends Academy 81, Seaford 58: Jackson O’Brien had 31 points to lead Friends Academy (13-4). Andrew Tudda had 34 points for Seaford (10-8).
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Centereach 61, Newfield 58: Delaney Walters hit a winning three-pointer as time expired for Centereach in Suffolk III. Walters finished with 12 points.
Meaghan Grieco had 20 points and Hayley Torres added 14 points for Centereach (10-6).
Centereach outscored Newfield 29-17 in the second half. Raiyah Reid had 38 points for Newfield (0-12).

Eastport-South Manor 28, East Islip 26: Riley Carlson scored the winning basket with 1:50 left in the fourth quarter to give Eastport-South Manor a 27-25 lead in Suffolk IV.
Gianna DaCunha made a foul shot with three minutes left to tie the score at 25 for Eastport-South Manor (7-8).
Commack 29, Bay Shore 23: Sofia Vasselman had 10 points to lead Commack (17-0) in Suffolk II. Haley Loscalzo added two points, 12 rebounds and 10 steals.
Half Hollow Hills East 71, Smithtown East 45: Rose Azmoudeh had 31 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and six steals to lead Hills East (10-5) in Suffolk III.
Massapequa 58, Lynbrook 49: Briana Neary had 18 points, five assists and five rebounds to lead Massapequa (10-5) in non-league. Paige Garguilo added 13 points, nine rebounds and five steals. Grace Trotta had 17 points and five rebounds and Savanna Appleton had eight points, 10 rebounds and five blocks. Kate Benedict had 14 points and hit four threes for Lynbrook (14-2).
Farmingdale 46, Freeport 37: Leela Guobadia scored 10 of her 24 points in the fourth quarter with 15 rebounds and five blocks to lead Farmingdale (7-7) in Nassau AAA-I. Emily Markovina added 16 points and 13 rebounds for the Dalers. Nia Phillips and Madison Starks each scored 10 points for Freeport (8-8).
St. John the Baptist 47, Kellenberg 38: Emma Ryan had 26 points and 12 rebounds and Alex Brauer had seven points and 11 rebounds to lead St. John the Baptist (10-4) in CHSAA.
