Adrian Munoz fired in the winning penalty kick, lifting No. 9 Comsewogue past top-seeded Smithtown West in the boys soccer Suffolk Class AA quarterfinals on Monday.
Comsewogue defeated Smithtown West in penalty kicks, 4-3, after playing to a 1-1 score after regulation and overtime.
Ryan Worhle allowed just one goal in the win, making 17 saves. Brady Mueller opened the scoring in the first half with a goal off an assist from Cristiano Pimentel before Peyton McGrade scored the second-half equalizer for Smithtown West.
Jerry Nagosky had seven saves for the Bulls, who ended their season with a 14-1-1 record.
Comsewogue (8-7) plays at No. 4 Amityville at 4 p.m. on Wednesday in the semifinals.
West Islip 1, Centereach 0: Charlie Mastroberti scored the golden goal off a feed from Michael Durso with less than three minutes remaining in the first overtime to lift No. 11 West Islip over No. 3 Centereach in the Suffolk Class AA quarterfinal. Michael Hazelton recorded the shutout with six saves.
West Islip (9-7-1) plays at No. 2 Half Hollow Hills West at 4 p.m. on Wednesday in the semifinals. Centereach finished 10-3-2.
Half Hollow Hills West 1, Deer Park 0: Marco D’Allessandro’s long free kick got underneath the crossbar and into the net to send No. 2 Half Hollow Hills West past No. 10 Deer Park. Luke Bradley made one save for Half Hollow Hills West (12-3-1). Deer Park finished 6-6-3.
Floyd 2, Ward Melville 1: Jezai Kidd scored the winner five minutes into the second overtime to lead No. 10 Floyd past No. 7 Ward Melville in the first round of the Suffolk Class AAA playoffs.
Just a minute before Kidd’s goal, Myles Von Brook saved a shot on a breakaway and also stopped a penalty kick during the match to save the game for Floyd. Von Brook finished with seven saves and Elliot Burgueno also scored a goal in the win.
Floyd (10-6-1) plays at No. 2 Commack at 3 p.m. on Thursday in the quarterfinals. Ward Melville finished 8-6.
Smithtown East 2, Sachem North 1: Joe Marano scored the winner off an assist from Robbie Lauro with 13 minutes left as No. 8 Smithtown East defeated No. 9 Sachem North. Nico Skartsiaris made seven saves.
Smithtown East (8-5-1) plays at No. 1 Brentwood at 4 p.m. on Thursday in the quarterfinals. Sachem North finished at 6-7-2.
Newfield 3, Patchogue-Medford 1: Derlis Aguilar scored two goals in the first half and Diego Hernandez added the third with 16 minutes remaining as No. 11 Newfield defeated No. 6 Patchogue-Medford. Stephen Ingraselino assisted on all three goals and John Caso made five saves.
Moris Villalta scored a late goal for Patchogue-Medford, which finished at 9-6-2.
Newfield (8-7-1) plays at No. 3 Whitman at 2:45 p.m. on Thursday in the quarterfinals.
GIRLS SOCCER
Portledge 1, The Chapin School 0: Fatemah Khalfan scored off an assist from Stephanie Ahee in the 19th minute as No. 6 Portledge defeated No. 11 Chapin in the first round of the NYSAIS Tournament. Maddy Jelloe had seven saves.
Portledge (17-1-1) plays at No. 3 Hackley at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the quarterfinals.
Sachem North 1, Patchogue-Medford 0: Addison Pitman scored off an assist from Claire Hoina with 12 minutes left in the second half to lead No. 9 Sachem North over No. 8 Patchogue-Medford in the first round of the Suffolk Class AAA playoffs. Ryan Rosario had seven saves.
Sachem North (9-5-2) will travel to No. 1 Ward Melville at 4 p.m. Thursday in the quarterfinals. Patchogue-Medford finished 9-7.
Northport 4, Connetquot 3: Brooke Heffernan’s three goals lifted No. 6 Northport over No. 11 Connetquot. Ava DeMarco added a goal and an assist with Ella Cancro, Caitlin Cocks and Emma Greenberg also earning assists.
Kaylin Mallon scored and assisted on Madison Caputo’s two goals for Connetquot (8-7-1).
Northport (10-3-3) will travel to No. 3 Commack at noon on Thursday in the quarterfinals.
North Shore 8, Mineola 2: Giovanna Corridan scored three goals to lead No. 1 North Shore past No. 8 Mineola in the Nassau Class A quarterfinals. Crystal Knoell had two goals and an assist, Sam DiBenedetto scored twice and Isa Guerrero had three assists. Erin Lily La Rosa also scored.
Daniela de Sousa scored two goals and Marissa Krukowski made 16 saves for Mineola (6-8).
North Shore (10-5-2) plays No. 5 Floral Park at noon on Saturday at Cold Spring Harbor High School in the semifinals.
FIELD HOCKEY
Bayport-Blue Point 2, Rocky Point 1: Delaney Bowen made three key saves in the shootout to help No. 3 Bayport-Blue Point defeat No. 6 Rocky Point in the Suffolk Class B quarterfinals. Camryn Hawkins, Aubrie Eisfeld and Emma Shanahan all scored shootout goals for Bayport-Blue Point. Bowen made five saves in regulation.
Shanahan assisted on Eisfeld’s second-quarter equalizer before Hawkins fired in the winning goal in the shootout.
Breezy Henke made six saves and Emelina Leccese scored a first-quarter goal for Rocky Point (10-7).
Bayport-Blue Point (15-2) plays at No. 2 Harborfields at 4 p.m. on Friday in the semifinals.
Miller Place 1, East Islip 0: Freshman Kelsey Hoffmann scored off a penalty stroke in the second quarter to lead No. 1 Miller Place past No. 9 East Islip in the Suffolk Class B quarterfinals. Juliana Farina had five saves.
Miller Place (16-1) hosts the winner of No. 4 Shoreham-Wading River/No. 5 Eastport-South Manor at 4 p.m. on Friday in the semifinals. East Islip finished 10-8.
Harborfields 6, Sayville 2: Olivia Eusanio had two goals and two assists in No. 2 Harborfields’ win over No. 7 Sayville in the Suffolk Class B quarterfinals.
Bella Monteleone had three goals and one assist. Lily Viscusi made four saves and Mackenzie Doig made two saves. Samantha Henry made 13 saves for Sayville (9-7).
FOOTBALL
Kings Park 31, Rocky Point 21: Brandon Shapiro completed 9 of 14 passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns, both of which were to Nick Paliotta, to lead Kings Park (1-6) in Suffolk III. Shapiro also had 11 rushes for 55 yards and a touchdown. Paliotta finished with five receptions for 110 yards and two touchdowns. Kevin Vasquez had 14 carries for 63 yards and a touchdown and had three catches for 32 yards. Dylan Lampert had eight tackles and made three interceptions. Frankie Buffolino had 13 tackles, two sacks and an interception. Rocky Point is 2-5.
