High school playoffs roundup: Tyler McKillop keeps Bayport-Blue Point alive; more baseball, softball, lacrosse, badminton

Tyler McKillop drove in Cooper Fuller on a two-out walk-off single to left-centerfield in the ninth inning to lead No. 2 Bayport-Blue Point to a 3-2 win over No. 6 Sayville in the second round of the Suffolk Class A double-elimination baseball playoffs on Friday. Logan Curran went 3-for-4 and Fuller went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Miller Varley struck out six in four scoreless innings of relief to earn the win. Christopher Spatenga struck out seven in six innings for Sayville (14-8). BBP (17-4) will visit No. 1 Kings Park in the semifinals at noon on Sunday.

Kings Park 2, Miller Place 0: Hunter Colagrande struck out 11 and allowed four hits in a shutout to lead No. 1 Kings Park over No. 5 Miller Place in the second round of the Suffolk Class A double-elimination playoffs. Michael Cooper stole home with two outs in the third inning to give Kings Park its first run. Mitchell Landau had a two-out RBI single to score Cooper in the fifth. Nick Frusco struck out six in six innings for Miller Place (15-7).

Hauppauge 4, East Islip 2: Kevin Walker drove in Cole Wood with a go-ahead double in the bottom of the sixth inning of No. 1 Hauppauge’s win over No. 5 East Islip in the second round of the Suffolk Class AA double-elimination playoffs. Tucker Brown added a two-out RBI single later in the inning. Michael Oliveto hit a two-run home run in the first. John Margolies struck out the side in the top of the seventh to earn the save. Lucas Patton hit a two-run double to tie it for East Islip (14-6) in the top of the fourth. Hauppauge (18-3) will host No. 7 Comsewogue at noon on Sunday.

Mattituck 4, Port Jefferson 0: Tyler Brown struck out seven batters and allowed three hits in a shutout to lead No. 3 Mattituck over No. 2 Port Jefferson in the first round of the Suffolk Class B double-elimination playoffs. Trey Hansen hit a two-RBI double in the sixth inning for the game’s first runs. Mattituck (6-14) will visit No. 1 Babylon in the semifinals at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

THURSDAY’S GAMES

Carey 3, MacArthur 1: Justin Babiak scattered five hits and a run in six innings with four strikeouts to lead No. 9 Carey past No. 1 MacArthur in Game 3 of the Nassau Class AA quarterfinals. Carey (17-7) will visit No. 2 Bellmore JFK in Game 1 of a semifinal series at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Port Washington 5, Syosset 3: Max Spiryda and Jeff Radinsky each hit a two-run homer to lead No. 4 Port Washington over No. 5 Syosset in Game 3 of the Nassau Class AAA quarterfinals. Port Washington (13-8-2) will visit No. 1 Massapequa in the first of a three-game semifinal series at 11 a.m. on Sunday. Syosset finished 10-11-1.

SOFTBALL

Miller Place 2, Islip 0: Emily Lopez hit a two-run home run in the top of the first inning to lead No. 3 Miller Place over No. 2 Islip in the second round of the Suffolk Class A double-elimination playoffs. Ava Zicchinelli struck out six in a complete game. Lauren McSweeney struck out 10 in a complete game for Islip (18-3). Miller Place (17-4) will host No. 4 Sayville in the semifinals at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

West Islip 2, East Islip 1: Emily Bouros struck out 11 in a complete game to lead No. 2 West Islip over No. 3 East Islip in the second round of the Suffolk Class AA double-elimination playoffs. Cadence Olsen and Penelope Knoop each had an RBI double and Christine Lombardi added a double. Marisa Renganeschi went 2-for-3 for East Islip (15-7). West Islip (18-4) will host No. 5 Deer Park in the semifinals at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

THURSDAY’S GAMES

Mepham 10, Carey 7: Giselle DeLutri went 1-for-3 with a bases-clearing double and pitched 4 2⁄3 innings to lead No. 3 Mepham over No. 6 Carey in the Nassau Class AA quarterfinals. Katelyn Agulles went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs. Mepham (5-12) will face the winner of No. 2 Bellmore JFK/No. 7 Division in a three-game semifinal series starting on Saturday. Carey is 9-12.

Massapequa 7, Port Washington 3: Madison Tucholski went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and Emily Balducci went 2-for-4 with an RBI as No. 1 Massapequa defeated No. 8 Port Washington in the Nassau Class AAA quarterfinals. Annalise Lane, Maeve Schiereck and Gabby LaSpisa each added an RBI. Mikayla Buckley struck out three and allowed no earned runs in a complete game. Massapequa (14-6) will host No. 5 East Meadow in Game 1 of a three-game semifinal series at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Berner Middle School. Port Washington is 16-4.

BOYS LACROSSE

Portledge 12, Trinity School 2: James Godsell had three goals and three assists to lead Portledge to a win over Trinity School in the NYSAIS quarterfinals. Steven Martinez made eight saves. Oliver Bahnik, Wilder Finkel and Tyler Barnett all added three-point games. Portledge (8-4-1) will face Hackley on Monday in the semifinals.

THURSDAY’S GAME

Seaford 11, Lynbrook 10: Daniel Barone had two goals and three assists and scored the winner in overtime to lead No. 2 Seaford over No. 7 Lynbrook in the Nassau Class C quarterfinals. Tim Navin scored four goals and Bryan Falk scored three goals, including the tying score in the fourth quarter to force overtime. Barone’s brother, Peter, had three assists. Seaford (13-4) will play No. 3 Island Trees (12-5) in the Nassau Class C semifinals at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Hofstra. Luke Dantona had four goals and an assist for Lynbrook, which finished 10-8.

Mineola 9, Division 6: Caitlin Kenney had five goals and four draw controls to lead No. 8 Mineola over No. 9 Division in the first round of the Nassau Class C playoffs. Mineola (9-9) will visit No. 1 Manhasset in the quarterfinals at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Division finished 11-6.

Port Washington 13, Baldwin 7: Catherine Karman scored two goals and had 10 draw controls to lead No. 3 Port Washington over No. 6 Baldwin in the Nassau Class A quarterfinals. Port Washington (5-11) will face No. 2 Massapequa in the semifinals at 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Adelphi. Baldwin is 13-2.

GIRLS BADMINTON

Ward Melville 5, Smithtown East 4: Delaney Hart defeated Nicole Clemons at first singles to lead No. 4 Ward Melville past No. 1 Smithtown East in the Suffolk semifinals.
