High school sports roundup: Baseball, softball, lacrosse
Derek Yormack pitched a no-hitter, striking out 17 batters and walking two on 89 pitches to lead Bellmore JFK to a 6-0 win over Long Beach in Nassau Conference AA-III baseball on Thursday. Eli Lowenstein and Vito Mannino each had two hits and Derek Fong, Jake Wexler and Ryan Yormack each had one hit for Bellmore JFK (11-2). Dylan Babek and Alex Demas each drove in one run. Jack Passman struck out three in five innings for Long Beach (5-9).
Sewanhaka 10, Roosevelt 8: Ethan Tome went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run and Nick Tome finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs to lead Sewanhaka (6-3-1) in Nassau Countywide.
North Babylon 6, Newfield 3: Ryan Camier’s two-run single highlighted a five-run second inning to lead North Babylon (6-5) in Suffolk III. Camier finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Tim Camier struck out six, allowed seven hits and one earned run in a complete game.
SOFTBALL
Mount Sinai 8, Kings Park 7: Josie Alfano hit a three-run walk-off home run in the seventh inning to lead Mount Sinai (4-6) in Suffolk VI. Alfano finished 2-for-3 with two home runs, five RBIs and three runs. Savannah Hesse went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Alex Audia struck out five batters and allowed two earned runs in a complete game for Mount Sinai. Emma Lombardi went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs for Kings Park (6-5).
Mattituck/Greenport/Southold 24, Pierson/Bridgehampton 22: Sophia Vescovi hit a walk-off home run in the sixth inning for Mattituck/Greenport/Southold (1-10) in Suffolk VII. Vescovi finished 4-for-6 with two doubles and a home run. Mallory Meier went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and a home run. Hailey Alfano went 2-for-4 with a double and a home run.
Riverhead 2, Longwood 0: Mya Marelli pitched seven innings and had 14 strikeouts to lead Riverhead (7-3) in Suffolk I. Jordan Kwasna went 1-for-3 with a solo homer.
GIRLS LACROSSE
South Side 11, Long Beach 10: Charlotte Rathjen had the winning goal with 17 seconds remaining in overtime to lead South Side (9-2) in Nassau I. Rathjen finished with four goals and Annie Chimienti had one goal and three assists. Marianna Chimienti had six goals for Long Beach (7-4).
Harborfields 10, Babylon 4: Jamie Medico had four goals and one assist and Lyla Droskoski had two goals and one assist to lead Harborfields (7-3) in Suffolk II. Sawyer Scarola had three assists and Olivia Eusanio made eight saves. Sofia Giorgio had two goals for Babylon (3-6).
Rocky Point 9, Shoreham-Wading River 8: Kylie Lamoureux had three goals, one assist and three draw controls to lead Rocky Point (7-2) in Suffolk II. Kaleigh Moeller had two goals and two assists, Cadence Adamo had two goals and Brianna Henke made 12 saves. Grayce Kitchen had four goals for Shoreham-Wading River (5-3).
BOYS LACROSSE
Kellenberg 19, St. Dominic 13: Donovan O’Toole had four goals and four assists and Thomas O’Sullivan made 10 saves to lead Kellenberg (6-4) in CHSAA. JJ Ramsay scored five goals and Logan Bracco made 10 saves for St. Dominic (5-3).
WEDNESDAY’S GAMES
West Islip 10, Comsewogue 9: Chase Busking scored four goals, including the winner as time expired, to lead West Islip (9-0) in Suffolk II. Derek Busking had three goals and six assists and Lucas Dumond won 15 of 21 faceoffs. Ryan Schnepf made 16 saves for Comsewogue (3-5).
Mount Sinai 16, Glenn 14: Tommy Massaro had seven goals and won 24 of 30 faceoffs and Ryan Filippi had three goals and four assists for Mount Sinai (4-5) in Suffolk II. Matthew Triolo had six goals for Glenn (4-3).
