Long Island Swimmer of the Year: Chloe Stepanek, Northport, Jr.

Stepanek successfully defended her state championship in both the 200-yard freestyle and the 100 freestyle and was named the most outstanding athlete of the state championships for a second consecutive season. Her time of 49.64 in the 100 free broke her own Suffolk County record of 49.93 that she set last year at states.
Kyra Sommerstad, Port Jefferson, Jr.

Sommerstad won the state 200-yard individual medley championship and finished second in the 100 backstroke after winning the Suffolk County title in both events.
Catherine Stanford, Oceanside, Jr.

Stanford won the state championship in the 50-yard freestyle, finished second in the 100 free, and was named the outstanding swimmer at the Nassau County championship after winning both events for the third straight year.
Jessica Whang, Great Neck South, Sr.

Whang came from behind in the 100-yard breaststroke to win the state championship in her final high school race. The senior was also the Nassau County champion in the event.
Lauryn Johnson, Sacred Heart, Sr.

Johnson, committed to UCLA, swam a record 54.48 in the 100-yard butterfly during the lCHSAA league championship meet.She finished third in the 100 butterfly and 500 freestyle event at the states.
