NEWSDAY SWIMMER OF THE YEAR
Chloe Stepanek
Northport, Jr.
Stepanek successfully defended her state championship in both the 200-yard freestyle and the 100 freestyle and was named the most outstanding athlete of the state championships for a second consecutive season. Her time of 49.64 in the 100 free broke her own Suffolk record of 49.93 that she set last year at the state championships.

Kyra Sommerstad
Port Jefferson, Jr.
Sommerstad won the state 200-yard individual medley championship and finished second in the 100 backstroke after winning the Suffolk title in both events.
Jessica Whang
Great Neck South, Sr.
Whang came from behind in the 100-yard breaststroke to win the state championship in her final high school race. The senior was also the Nassau champion in the event.
Catherine Stanford
Oceanside, Jr.
Stanford won the state championship in the 50-yard freestyle, finished second in the 100 free, and was named the outstanding swimmer at the Nassau championships after winning both events for the third straight year.
Lauryn Johnson
Sacred Heart, Sr.
Johnson, committed to UCLA, swam a record 54.48 in the 100-yard butterfly during the CHSAA league championship meet. She finished third in the 100 butterfly and 500 freestyle at the state meet.
