2011 All-Long Island girls volleyball

EMILY ASTARITA
Ward Melville, Outside hitter, junior
She emerged as one of Suffolk’s top all-around talents; she had 310 kills and 140 digs and helped the Patriots to the Class AA semifinals. She had 16 kills in a three-game quarterfinal win over Smithtown West.

KELLY BYRNE
Kellenberg, Outside hitter, senior
She was named NSCHSAA Player of the Year and led the Firebirds in kills (209), digs (203) and aces (70). In a three-game semifinal win over Sacred Heart, she posted seven kills and five aces.

EMILY CLEMENS
Lindenhurst, Setter, junior
A three-time All-County selection, she had 13 kills, 18 assists and 12 digs in a regular-season win against Glenn.

MAGGIE ENGELLENNER
Smithtown East, Libero, senior
She had a school-record 405 digs, earning her reputation as the Island’s premier defensive player. In the Suffolk Class AA final against Lindenhurst, she had 40 digs as the Bulls came back from a two- games-to-one deficit.

ALLISON GLASS
South Side, Outside hitter, senior
She had 104 aces, 322 kills and 249 digs as the Cyclones advanced to the Nassau Class A final. In the semis vs. Herricks, she led the way with 14 kills and 22 digs.

JOELLE GOLDSTEIN
Kings Park, Outside hitter, sophomore
In a year in which the Lady Kingsmen won their first Long Island title, she had 288 kills, 43 aces and a .533 kill percentage. She had 24 kills in the Suffolk Class A final win over Sayville.

JENNY ILIBASSI
Wantagh, Outside hitter, senior
A two-time All-County, All-Long Island and All-State selection, she had 19 kills against South Side as the Warriors won their third straight Nassau Class A title. She averaged more than six kills and four digs per game.

ALLISON MCKENNA
Glenn, Middle blocker, senior
She led the Class B state champions with a .455 hitting percentage and was named to her third straight All-State team. She had five kills and four blocks for the Spiders in their state championship victory against Pelham.

KAYLA MERGL
Sayville, Setter, senior
A two-time All-County selection, she had six matches of 40-plus assists as the Golden Flashes made it to the Suffolk Class A final. On Oct. 7 against Kings Park, she had a season-high 50 assists.

DELIA PHILLIPS
Smithtown East, Outside hitter, senior
An offensive machine, she holds Smithtown East career records for kills (1,115) and kills per game (6.2) and was named to the All-State team. Behind Phillips, the Bulls won their first L.I. title since splitting into two high schools.

LONG ISLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR: MELISSA RIGO
Glenn, Outside hitter, senior
The Stony Brook University-bound Rigo earned All-State honors for the third straight year as the Spiders won their first Class B state title since 2007. She had 355 kills, 45 blocks and a .440 hitting percentage.

LAUREN VAN BUREN
Massapequa, Outside hitter, junior
The Nassau Player of the Year had a .490 kill percentage as the Chiefs won their 12th straight county Class AA title. In the three-game final sweep against Hicksville, she had 10 kills, 13 digs, three aces and two blocks.

COACH OF THE YEAR: KEVIN HARRINGTON
Glenn
Harrington led the Spiders to the state Class B championship without losing a game during the state tournament. He has won five state titles since he took over the program in 1992.
