Newsday's All-Long Island girls volleyball team 2016

Long Island player of the year: Jamie Smith, Setter/Right Side Hitter, Massapequa, Sr.

The Iona-bound lefty is the most versatile talent Long Island has to offer. She had 419 assists, 235 kills, 151 digs and 38 blocks this season as the on-floor general for another extremely talented Chiefs team that won its 17th consecutive Nassau AA title. Smith's value comes in her willingness to do whatever it takes to score or prevent a point. As a setter, she combines great awareness with overwhelming confidence in her hitters. When she's not setting, she's arguably the team's most consistent hitter. Defensively, she's a stud on the back line and at the net.

Suffolk player of the year: Mackenzie Cole, Libero, Connetquot, Jr.

Cole plays with so much control and poise that's it's easy to see why she will be playing at Duke, where she has made a verbal commitment. Cole is the leader of Connetquot's stingy defense, making 247 digs and just eight dig errors. She also had a 92.9 serving percentage.

Haley Anderson, Outside Hitter, Smithtown East, Sr.

The all-around star led the Bulls to their 10th straight League III title and a berth to the county final. Her skill set will be on display at Quinnipiac next year.

Gabby Ayzenberg, Outside Hitter, Long Beach, Sr.

An offensive powerhouse who also possesses one of the best serves on Long Island. She had 336 kills this season, finishing with 1,066 for her career. She'll play at SUNY Geneseo.

Sophie Dandola, Outside Hitter, Seaford, Sr.

The owner of Nassau's strongest right arm propelled the Vikings to a Long Island championship berth with 225 kills and close to five kills per set. Her serve is quite difficult to receive.

Jillian Graham, Outside Hitter, Wantagh, Sr.

One of the most balanced players on Long Island, contributing in nearly every facet of the game. She had 288 kills, 204 digs and 91 blocks for the Warriors this season. She'll play at Scranton University.

Lauren Kloos, Outside Hitter, Kings Park, Sr.

Catalyst helped Kingsmen reach their first berth in the state championship match. She's an intelligent hitter who combines power with placement to rack up kills.

Nicole Migliozzi, Setter, Connetquot, Jr.

She's one of Long Island's best at distributing the ball, racking up 667 assists, and with so many hitting options, Migliozzi makes sure they all stay involved. The junior has already verbally committed to Quinnipiac.

Megan Pfundstein, Setter, Kellenberg, Sr.

A rock this season for the Firebirds, she won the league's own Catholic League Player of the Year award after recording 802 assists, 228 digs and a 95.8 percent serving accuracy as the team won its second straight Catholic League title.

Lauren Wilke, Setter, Bayport-Blue Point, Jr.

The team leader's versatility helped the Phantoms trump longtime rival Glenn in the Suffolk B Championship game. She's a two-way setter who is equally as effective at setting and hitting.

Nassau coach of the year: CarolAnn Habeeb, Massapequa

Habeeb's Chiefs have won 17 consecutive Nassau AA titles and have gone undefeated in the county 13 straight seasons.

Suffolk coach of the year: Toni Mulgrave, Bayport-Blue Point

A major part in lifting the Phantoms past Glenn, who had won 16 straight Suffolk B titles and 15 straight Long Island Class B titles.
