Injured Travis Hamonic plays for Islanders

Travis Hamonic and Lubomir Visnovsky skated Tuesday morning with the rest of the Islanders, but only Hamonic made it into the lineup Tuesday night.

Hamonic left the ice in pain after only a few minutes of practice on Monday with an undisclosed problem, but was confident he would play Tuesday night after testing things out.

Visnovsky, who hasn't played a game this season because of back spasms, also believed he was ready, but with Hamonic healthy enough to go, the Isles decided not to make a necessary roster move to activate Visnovsky from injured reserve.

That move likely would have been placing Matt Donovan on waivers. Donovan was a healthy scratch for a sixth straight game, but the Islanders aren't quite ready yet to risk losing Donovan to a waiver claim.

Grabovski goes for a spin

Mikhail Grabovski (concussion) was back on the ice before the morning skate, a welcome development after he was diagnosed with a concussion on Friday.

He left Thursday's shootout win over the Sharks in the first period after a thunderous hit from San Jose's John Scott.

If Grabovski comes through without any recurrence of symptoms, he could be back at practice within a day or two. Grabovski was not placed on IR, so there's no roster move to make with him.

Owners introduced Wednesday

Jon Ledecky and Scott Malkin, the Islanders' new minority owners, will hold a news conference with now-majority owner Charles Wang Wednesday at Nassau Coliseum.
