The Islanders agreed to terms with PA Parenteau Thursday on a one-year contract extension worth $1.25 million.

After struggling to crack the Rangers' lineup for four seasons, the 27-year-old winger has career highs in goals (14) and assists (21) in 57 games with the Islanders this season.

"I've been working a long time for something like this," Parenteau said. "I think I earned it this year. gave me big minutes and a chance to prove myself in this league. I'm really happy to be back for one more year."

Parenteau said his linemates, John Tavares and Matt Moulson, have been instrumental in his success this season.

"Playing with guys like Tavares and Moulson, it's definitely going to help your case," Parenteau said. "I think we've been having success. We have some good chemistry, a good thing going, and I think that was part of the extension."

Now that he has a new contract, he'll make at least one lifestyle upgrade. He said Hoppy, the bunny he shares with roommate Zenon Konopka, will receive a special treat. Said Parenteau, "He might start getting some organic lettuce."

MacDonald's nose broken

X-rays revealed that defenseman Andrew MacDonald suffered a broken nose in his first-period collision with Ottawa's Chris Kelly Tuesday night, but he still played against the Bruins.

MacDonald, who wore Bruno Gervais' facial shield immediately after suffering the injury, was outfitted for his own "bubble" and expects to wear it for three to four weeks.

MacDonald said he met with four different doctors Wednesday to make sure his teeth, eyes and facial bones were where they were supposed to be.
