Islanders vs. Flames ticket prices soaring on secondary market for UBS Arena opener

Islanders fans have waited decades for a new home arena to call their own, and the pent-up demand predictably is having an effect on the cost of tickets for Saturday night’s opener.
The secondary ticket site TickPick said that as of early Thursday, the game against the Flames at UBS Arena was its most expensive Islanders regular-season game to date, with an average purchase price of $305.
TickPick said its biggest purchase for the game had been for five tickets in Section 106, Row 9, for $537 per ticket.
The lowest asking price as of Thursday was $266.
On StubHub, the lowest asking price including projected fees was $294, ranging from there to far above $1,000 for seats close to the ice surface.
Some fans’ enthusiasm for the opening was dimmed by the Islanders’ four-game losing streak and current spot in last place in the Metropolitan Division. But for most, the momentousness of the event loomed larger than short-term concerns.
Fans willing to wait until the second game at UBS Arena, against the Maple Leafs on Sunday, will find far lower prices on the secondary market.
