Before the Islanders complete their move to Brooklyn, they'll be making a stop in the Bronx. And the Rangers are coming along, too.

The Islanders and Rangers will play a game at Yankee Stadium on Jan. 29 as part of the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series, the NHL announced Wednesday afternoon. The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The Rangers, who begin a second-round playoff series against the Bruins on Thursday, will be at least a little familiar with Yankee Stadium when they take on the Islanders, who were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Penguins. The Rangers are also scheduled to play the Devils in the Bronx on Jan. 26 at 12:30 p.m. Both games will be considered road games for the Rangers.

"The New York Rangers are honored to participate in these two historic games at Yankee Stadium, bringing hockey into the home of another one of New York's iconic sports franchises," Rangers GM Glen Sather said. "Playing hockey outdoors takes the game back to its roots and reminds us all why we laced up our skates as youngsters."

The pair of games will be the first hockey games played at the new Yankee Stadium, which has a capacity of 50,291.

"Our fan-base is one of the most passionate in the NHL," Islanders GM Garth Snow said. "The support we consistently receive from our fans was on display during the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs and I expect it to be on an even greater scale when we take on the Rangers."

"We have long thought that Yankee Stadium would be a great venue for outdoor hockey," Yankees COO Lonn Trost said. "In addition to being a first-class baseball facility, Yankee Stadium was designed to house unique and memorable events, such as the NHL Stadium Series. Hosting two of the NHL's classic rivalries at Yankee Stadium will be a great kickoff for the worldwide sporting events in the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area scheduled in early 2014."

The Rangers last played outdoors during the 2012 NHL Winter Classic, when they beat the Flyers at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

The Rangers went 2-2 against the Islanders and 3-1 against the Devils during the 2012-13 regular season.

The Coors Light Stadium Series also features games between the Ducks and Kings at Dodger Stadium on Jan. 25 and the Penguins and Blackhawks at Soldier Field on March 1.

Toronto and Detroit will meet at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor on Jan. 1 for the annual Winter Classic. A game between Ottawa and Vancouver at BC Place on March 2 also is being planned.
