Islanders unveil new Brooklyn themed third jersey

The Islanders and Barclays Center unveiled the team's new alternate jersey Wednesday with a posting on the team's website. John Tavares also skated with a Long Island youth hockey team to break out the new black-and-white scheme, which aligns with the colors of the Nets, the Isles' co-tenants in Brooklyn.
"It was extremely important to ensure that our passionate fan base could still see the traditions of the New York Islanders represented in this third jersey," Islanders general manager Garth Snow said. "We feel we've created a jersey our players will be proud to wear that has unique features which will also connect with Brooklyn residents."
The jersey has the "NY" logo from the team's Stadium Series alternate jersey, introduced after the Isles faced the Rangers at Yankee Stadium in January 2014, plus four white stripes on each sleeve and sock to represent the four Stanley Cups the Islanders own.
The nods to their new home and marketing bosses are clear: The jersey is black, like those of the Nets, and there is a "BKLYN" decal on the helmets.
The Islanders will debut the new threads on Nov. 3 against the Devils, the first of 12 games in which they will wear the new alternates. The alternate jerseys are now on sale via the NHL's website, the Barclays Center pro shop and the Islanders' pro shops on Long Island.
