Jiggs McDonald to replace Howie Rose for first three Islanders TV broadcasts

The Islanders have sought to bring many elements of the Nassau Coliseum era with them to Brooklyn, but due to circumstances beyond their control another visible one will help mark the first regular-season game at Barclays Center tomorrow night.
With MSG's regular play-by-play man, Howie Rose, busy with Mets radio duties, Jiggs McDonald will work at least the first three games of the season, starting with the opener against the Blackhawks.
He also has been assigned to Saturday's road game against the Blackhawks and Monday's game against the Jets. Those three games conflict with the first three games of the NLDS between the Mets and Dodgers.
McDonald, 76, the Islanders' primary play-by-play man for the last three of their four Stanley Cup seasons in the early 1980s and 15 seasons overall, has filled in for Rose in recent seasons.
Neil Best first worked at Newsday in 1982, returned in 1985 after a detour to Alaska and has been here since, specializing in high schools, college basketball, the NFL and most recently sports media and business.
