Key dynasty-era Islanders: Where are they now?

Bill Torrey

The man who built the dynasty on Long Island still has a hand in the sport as a special adviser to Panthers general manager Dale Tallon.

Al Arbour

The Hall of Fame coach has been in failing health, suffering from dementia, according to his former players. He lives in Florida.

Denis Potvin

The former Islanders captain will be back in the Coliseum one more time this season in his second stint as the Panthers' television analyst. He's also done TV work on Senators games in recent years.

Bryan Trottier

After a short run as Isles' player development coach five years ago, Trottier is back behind an NHL bench for the first time since his 54-game tenure as Rangers head coach in 2002-03. Trottier was hired this summer as a Sabres assistant coach under former Isles head man Ted Nolan.

Mike Bossy

He's been with the Islanders long after his playing days ended, currently as vice president of sponsorship marketing. Bossy is also providing commentary on MSG Network this season.

Butch Goring

The 1981 Conn Smythe winner as playoff MVP had stints as Isles' and Bruins' head coach before settling into his current role as Islanders color analyst on MSG game broadcasts.

Billy Smith

The spirited Hall of Fame goaltender is retired and lives in the Ottawa area.

Glenn 'Chico' Resch

Smith's affable backup for the first two Cup seasons went on to play for the Devils and just retired last season after 18 years as the Devils' color analyst.

Bob Bourne

One of the unsung players of the dynasty era, Bourne went into the Islanders Hall of Fame last season and lives in Kelowna, British Columbia.

Clark Gillies

The big, physical winger from the Islanders' top line still lives on Long Island and has worked in finance since he retired from hockey. His daughter, Brianna, married Bob Bourne's son, Justin, a few years ago.

John Tonelli

He set up the goal that started the dynasty and enjoyed a long NHL career. He works in finance in New York City.

Bob Nystrom

He scored the goal that put Long Island on the hockey map and he's been here ever since, retiring with the Isles in 1986 and working in the insurance industry in the area. His son, Eric, plays for the Predators.

Duane Sutter

The older of the Islanders' branch of the Sutter clan, Duane made his mark during the dynasty era as a physical, scoring winger. He coached the Panthers for parts of two seasons and is currently a pro scout for the Oilers.

Brent Sutter

The team's first-round pick in 1980, he quickly made his mark and won the last two Cups. He coached the Devils and Flames and now owns and coaches the Red Deer Rebels in the Western Hockey League.

Anders Kallur

He only played six seasons in the NHL, but four of them were the dynasty years. He is currently a European scout for the Isles.

Ken Morrow

He went from the U.S. Olympic team's Miracle On Ice to the dynasty before retiring in 1989. He is the Isles' director of pro scouting and is based in Kansas City.

Lorne Henning

He won all four Cups, two as a player and two as Arbour's trusted assistant. He has never left the NHL since, serving stints as Isles head coach and as assistant coach. He currently serves as assistant general manager of the Canucks.
