Michael Grabner named NHL's 1st star of the week
23-year-old rookie Michael Grabner, who scored his second career hat trick Sunday against the Sabres, was awarded the NHL’s first star of the week.
In four games last week, Grabner led the league with eight goals and one assist with a plus-7 rating.
He now leads the Islanders with 24 goals and is tied with Sharks' Logan Couture among the league's rookies.
Grabner beat out Sabres winger Drew Stafford and Coyotes goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov for the league's top honors.
Grabner earned the third star of the week earlier this month for his week heading into the league's All-Star Break in Raleigh, NC where he nabbed the "fastest skater" award.
