Moulson scores twice, moves within one goal of 20 mark

Matt Moulson had an answer for all the questions he faced during a 10-game goal slump last month.

"They can't all miss," Moulson said.

Despite a dearth of scoring in December, Moulson has reclaimed his title as the Islanders' goal-scoring leader. With two in yesterday's 4-0 shutout of the Devils, Moulson leads the Islanders with 19 goals.

"Now I'm back to getting bounces," he said.

This is the Islanders' 37th season, and according to the Elias Sports Bureau, last season was the only one in franchise history in which not one Islander reached the 20-goal mark. Now Moulson - whom the Islanders signed as an unrestricted free agent last July - is poised to do just that after scoring three goals in the past three games.

"I explained to him that our team was unique in the sense that we were trying to get a young group together," coach Scott Gordon said of the phone call he placed to Moulson last summer. "To have a spot on the power play and the chance to be a top-six guy, we thought this would provide him with the most opportunities."

Park loses another

Richard Park had his second goal in two games negated when the whistle was blown and play was ruled dead before Park crashed in on a puck that had escaped Martin Brodeur's pads.

Park also had a goal waved off in the third period Saturday when defenseman Andy Sutton made incidental contact with Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller in the crease.
