LAS VEGAS — Rangers defenseman Adam Fox, who grew up in Jericho, and his childhood friend, Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy of Long Beach, were among the first six players named Friday to the USA roster for the NHL’s inaugural 4 Nations Faceoff, an in-season international tournament set to take place in Montreal and Boston in February.

The tournament will feature NHL players from the United States, Canada, Sweden and Finland. Each country named the first six players on its roster Friday. Fox’s Rangers teammate, Mika Zibanejad, was one of the first six players named to Sweden’s roster.

Fox and McAvoy were joined on the USA roster by defenseman Quinn Hughes of Vancouver, centers Auston Matthews of Toronto and Jack Eichel of Vegas, and winger Matthew Tkachuk of Florida.

Zibanejad joins Toronto forward William Nylander, Nashville forward Filip Forsberg and defensemen Victor Hedman of Tampa Bay, Erik Karlsson of Pittsburgh and Gustav Forsling of Florida on Sweden’s roster.

Canada’s first six players are Connor McDavid of Edmonton, Nathan MacKinnon of Colorado and his teammate, defenseman Cale Makar, as well as Pittsburgh captain Sidney Crosby, Boston captain Brad Marchand and Tampa Bay forward Brayden Point.

Finland features Florida captain Aleksander Barkov, Mikko Rantanen of Colorado, Dallas defensemen Miro Heiskanen and Esa Lindell, Carolina forward Sebastian Aho and Nashville goalie Juuse Saros.
