Thursday topics: Frolov, Yankees, Villanova
Former Ranger Alex Frolov, who signed a one-year, $3 million deal with the Rangers last summer and blew out his knee in early January, has signed a three-year deal with Jaromir Jagr's Avanagard Omsk of the KHL. Not a big shock by any means. Frolov, who seemed slower than expected. never really seemed totally comfortable in New York, or with the playing time he was given. The idea was that the former Kings left wing might click with Marian Gaborik. Didn't happen. Wish him luck in his homeland, though.

Was summoned from the pen to cover Yankees-Royals game last night, all 11 drawn-out innnings at the Stadium. First visit this season. Best part of the evening was listening to head trainer Gene Monahan, 67, speak about his decision to retire at the end of the season in a touching pre-game retrospective of his long career. See newsday.com for that, and my game story.

Will be out of pocket much of this weekend at our daughter's graduation festivities at Villanova celebrating with family and friends. Extremely proud. As Sandy Denny sang, who knows where the time goes? Seems as if we were just scouting colleges up and down the East Coast with the little rascal last summer...
Anyway, next week, more on possible Rangers draft prospects, the playoffs, and whatever...
