'Draft Day' used one of Bill Belichick's scouting ideas

Bill Belichick doesn't appear on camera in the upcoming movie "Draft Day," but it turns out he had quite the influence on one of the film's bigger scenes.

During a Super Bowl week press conference, Denis Leary (who plays fictional Cleveland Browns head coach Vince Penn in the movie) recalled a story from the film's production that involved the real-life New England Patriots head coach --  and shows just how detailed the movie gets.

There's a scene in the movie where one of Kevin Costner's scouts talks about a trick that another team used to judge prospects. The team would tape a $100 bill to one of the pages of the playbook, with the idea being that a prospect who actually read through the entire playbook will notice the $100 bill and mention it during a meeting with team brass.

Leary said he spoke with Belichick about how he should play his role and said that he gave Belichick the script to get feedback on things in the movie that teams would and wouldn't do in real life. Leary said that Belichick brought up the $100 bill trick and asked Leary, "Who the [expletive] came up with that $100 playbook thing?!"

Leary said he didn't know, to which Belichick said that it was his thing, that it was something that he actually did when scouting QBs.
