ESPN, Tony Gonzalez films on Tribeca Film Festival lineup
The Tribeca Film Festival announced the lineup for its ninth annual Tribeca / ESPN Sports Film Festival, an event best known for inspiring creative excuses for me to avoid covering off-day NBA playoff practices.
This year's eight-film roster is headlined by "Play It Forward" about CBS analyst and former NFL tight end Tony Gonzalez and his older brother, Chris. (Michael Strahan is an executive producer.)
But much of the attention at the festival, which runs from April 15-26, figures to come from ESPN's short films slate, which features entries from A-listers Spike Lee, Eva Longoria and Katie Holmes. Lee and Longoria are scheduled to speak to audiences after screening of their films.
Lee's short, "The Greatest Catch Ever," concerns a certain play that was pivotal in the Giants' Super Bowl XLII victory over the Patriots.
