This page long has complained about ESPN's annual August overdose on Little League games, and it still is a little creepy. But there is no denying Mo'ne Davis has been a fantastic, compelling story.

The Sports Illustrated cover girl helped ESPN score record viewership for Wednesday's game between Davis' Philadelphia team and one from Las Vegas, which won, 8-1.

The game averaged 4.988 million viewers -- the most ever for the Little League World Series on ESPN, surpassing the 3.3 million for the Bronx vs. Oceanside, California, in '01. In Las Vegas, 16.3 percent of homes were tuned in. In Philly, the figure was 14.9. That's a lot.
