Tyler Murray is the Knicks' new radio play-by-play broadcaster
MSG Networks named Tyler Murray as the new Knicks radio play-by-play voice on Thursday, succeeding Ed Cohen.
Murray, 34, primarily will work alongside lead analyst Monica McNutt, with studio analysts Alan Hahn and Wally Szczerbiak filling in at times in that role.
Cohen had been the play-by-play announcer since 2017-18, but he worked only a handful of games last season as he battled a health issue that affected his voice.
Murray currently is the play-by-play broadcaster for the Red Sox’s Triple-A team in Worcester, Massachusetts, but he has extensive experience calling college basketball and hockey games in New England.
He is from Riverside, Connecticut, which is in the southwestern part of the state, near the New York border.
“As a lifelong Knicks fan, it’s always been my dream to call their games,” Murray said in a news release. “The city, The Garden, the fans — there’s just nothing like Knicks basketball. It’s an absolute honor to join MSG Networks and I’m excited to put in the work to continue their incredible standard of Knicks coverage on ESPN Radio."
Knicks and Rangers games this season will move to 880-AM, the new home of ESPN Radio. When those teams’ games conflict with Mets games, they will move to 1050-AM.
