Yankees attendance sinks

It is not your imagination that there have been more empty seats than ever so far this season at new Yankee Stadium.
After drawing 48,226 paid for Thursday's opener, attendance has fallen to 41,462, then 40,574, then 40,311. The last two were the first games at the three-year-old facility to draw fewer than 41,000.
Compared to many teams' struggles early this season, this is no big deal.
The Indians' attendance plummeted to 8,000-plus for their second home game.
The Cubs drew 26,292 at Wrigley Monday, their worst such figure since 2002.
And this weekend, the Mets' attendance will be closely watched as a referendum on fans' feelings about the direction of the team.
Also, it is no surprise the Yankees are struggling in early April, traditionally a challenging part of the season for ticket sales
Before the season, the search engine TiqIQ said Monday's game against the Twins was averaging the lowest prices of the season on the secondary market.
Still, this matter bears watching.
