Alistair Overeem vs. Brock Lesnar in UFC on Dec. 30

Alistair Overeem, the biggest name on the upswing in the heavyweight division not in the UFC, finally fixed that.

Overeem agreed to a deal with the UFC and will fight former champion Brock Lesnar on Dec. 30 in Las Vegas in what will likely be UFC 141.

"This is a dream matchup," Overeem told the Los Angeles Times.

Most everyone involved with mixed martial arts, from promoters to managers to fighters to fans, would agree.

Overeem was the Strikeforce heavyweight champion until that promotion, also owned by UFC parent company Zuffa, opted out of the last fight on his contract. Overeem was released from Zuffa entirely in late July. UFC president Dana White had said that it was about a disagreement with how Overeem's management company, Golden Glory, does business, and nothing to do with Overeem as a fighter.

As a fighter, Overeem remains somewhat of a mystery state-side. He spent most of his career fighting in Japan, including winning the 2011 K-1 Grand Prix last December.

When Overeem fought for Strikeforce, he was also allowed to compete in Dream and K-1 kickboxing bouts. That won't happen in the UFC.

The winner of the Overeem-Lesnar bout is likely to face the winner of Cain Velasquez vs. Junior Dos Santos (Nov. 12 on Fox).
