Bye bye, Brandon Vera
Brandon Vera, the once-promising light heavyweight, is on a three-fight losing streak in the UFC after Thiago Silva beat him up good at 125 on New Year's Day. Correction: Vera was on a three-fight losing streak in the UFC.
He's now just on a three-fight losing streak after being released from the premier promotion in mixed martial arts.
Vera is one of the most enigmatic fighters at 205 pounds. He has impressive Muay Thai and devastating leg kicks, but once the former headliner stepped up his level of competition, things went awry. He lost a unanimous decision to Randy Couture at UFC 96, then a loss to Jon Jones by first-round KO at UFC on Versus 1 and then the lost to Silva.
With the merger of WEC fighters, albeit at lighter weight classes, this is the worst time to have a three-fight losing streak.
Also out of a job in the UFC are Marcus Davis, Antonio McKee and Phil Baroni.
