LI's Ed Gordon wins Ring of Combat title
Eddie Gordon, a football player and wrestler for Freeport High School in the late 1990s and early 2000s, continues to excel in his athletic endeavors.
On Friday night, Gordon won the Ring of Combat light heavyweight title via unanimous decision over Carlos Brooks. It's the first title for Gordon (5-0), a member of the Serra-Longo Fight Team.
Ring of Combat is a regional promotion run by former kickboxing champion Lou Neglia. It has developed a solid reputation and has launched the MMA careers of more than 30 fighters in the UFC or Strikeforce.
James Jenkins, another Serra-Longo fighter from Rocky Point, lost his featherweight title shot by first-round submission to Guillermo Serment. It was Jenkins' first career loss (5-1).
Andre Harrison (4-0), who trains at Bellmore Kickboxing Academy, submitted William Metts in the first round.
Tom English of Bellmore Kickboxing lost a majority decision to Soslan Abanokov.
Chris Wade (3-0) of Long Island MMA earned a unanimous decision victory over Villi Bello.
