No jail time in Jon Jones' DWI sentencing
UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has his driver's license suspended for six months and was fined $1,000 as a result of a drunk driving charge on May 19 in Binghamton, N.Y.
Binghamton City Court Judge Daniel L. Seiden handed down the sentence, and as expected, it did not involve any jail time.
Jones was also ordered to install ignition interlocks on his vehicles. Jones pleaded guilty to the DWI charges on May 29.
"Blessed to still have the full support of Broom County/ all my fans and my DWI case officially behind me. Moving forward," Jones wrote on his verified Twitter account.
In the early hours of Saturday morning on May 19, Jones crashed his Bentley into a pole on the corner of Grand Boulevard and Helen Street in Binghamton, police said. No one was injured in the crash, police said, and Jones was arrested at the scene. He posted bail that morning.
Jones is scheduled to defend his title at UFC 151 on Labor Day weekend against Dan Henderson.
"Big thank you to my lawyer Tom Jackson for giving me great advice and helping me through this situation," Jones also tweeted.
