Thoughts on UFC Live on Versus 4

A roundup of thoughts after UFC Live on Versus 4 Sunday night in Pittsburgh . . .

- Just when I was ready to tweet "Why isn't Cheick Kongo as good as he should be?", he pulls off one of the more stunning comebacks in recent MMA history. Kongo was knocked down twice by Pat Barry and seemed completely out of it. But, as Barry moved in to finish the wobbly legged Kongo, he left himself open. Kongo, a dangerous striker, connected with a monster right that knocked out Barry before he even hit the canvas. Kongo's stock certainly moved up with that punch.

- Referee Dan Miragliotta's decision not to stop the fight when Kongo was dropped twice will be debated on Twitter, comment boards and elsewhere for a while. The view from here is that Big Dan made the right call.

- Who hates Nate Marquardt more right now, Dana White or Rick Story? Story was being marketed as one of the fastest rising stars at welterweight. But once Marquardt did not receive medical clearance and was kicked out of the UFC an hour or so before the weigh-ins on Saturday, he was replaced by Charlie Brenneman. "The Spaniard" proceeded to take the fight directly to Story, steal his mojo and win the unanimous decision.

- It's time to stop thinking of Matt Mitrione in terms of his ridiculousness from "The Ultimate Fighter" and start considering "Meathead" as a legitimate heavyweight fighter. He made it five in a row in the octagon with a second-round knockout of Christian Morecraft. While he may be moving up in the division, let's not get too carried away just yet. Mitrione's five opponents have a combined record of 6-10 in the UFC (40-17 overall). Time for Mitrione to fight a higher quality opponent. 

- Matt Brown and John Howard went 15 minutes of mostly uneventful action. Brown won the unanimous decision, interesting in the sense that it's only the third time in 24 pro bouts that Brown went the distance.
